If you want to talk about fast suckers you need to feed a chuck-n-duck. Smeagol---supplementing Nick's dietary regimen with a little fish is not sufficient-you need to ingest red meat in order to feed that monster.

No speed adjustment of the Bandits....

120 fpm is so slow compared to a chuck and duck at up to 20 feet per second. He must smoke a lot of ganja....

In the martial arts they have a move called a 'rotating pivot'.

I've used that working behind a busy bar as well as chipping.

I also instinctively employ a forearm block when working in close proximity to the brush I'm feeding, preventing a slap in the face.

Hey, Smegma, you need to eat a few of these! :)

Slow is good, young master! Give Smeagol a slow chipper and a Treeman with a handsaw, yesssss, that is a good afternoon!

For most things, YOU BETCHA!

I like the capacity of the bigger disc once in awhile, but that Altec kicks arse on the run-of-the-mill stuff, and weighs about 1/3 of what the Vermeer does.

It's also the fastest & easiest thing to maintain.

Cool. I haven't dealt with them in 15 or 20 years. I guess I had kinda forgotten how fast they can be with sharp blades. :)

That's the biggest thing with the drum... you have to keep the blades SHARP and the anvil properly set on them. They're alot less tolerant than a disc in that regard.

I hate chipping firewood. Such a waste!

We used one of those at a country club in Portland.

There was a dead duck that was tossed in the brush pile and it dried for about 6 months.

Ever seen a dead duck come out the end of one of those?

It was the most entertaining sight that chipping day.

I made a few bucket loads of applesauce a few years ago with my old Mitts and Merril drum. Only problem was, most of it remained in the chute.....Had to dismantle it totally to unclog her. Telltale sign it was about to clog was the juice running down the street...

By contrast, my Bandit 250, which blows normal brush a long way, started to clog after only a couple scoops of mt ash berries.

By the way, the M&M is still the best hand fed chipper ever made, IMO. Relatively slow feed, makes a better chip than my 250, escpecially with stringly material like cedar or small twigs. The location of the bed knife made it cut pieces of wood off rather than just suck them through. Much more sensitive to dull knives than any other chipper though.
