Need a carburetor kit for a Walbro carburetor, model WJ 24. Date stamped on the carb is 12/85. This carb is on an old Ryan weedeater, it will start and idle, will accelerate and then quit. Lines, fuel filter and impulse passages are OK, but the diaphragms look stretched. Any suggestions on locating a kit. I've been looking on the internet, but don't find the exact number listed (WJ 24) in the kit listings. Carb might be discontinued or gone to another model numher. Thanks. Lewis.

Hi Lewis,
No small engine shops in your area? If not -
WWW.walbro.com
Then select Service & Aftermarket
select Aftermarket Parts & Service
top right side of next page Click to Browse by Walbro Number
select WJ
select WJ 24-1 (shows exploded view and part/kit numbers)
Closest distributor looks like O'neil Associates

Carburetor Kit for Walbro Carb.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I was on the Walbro site, found the WJ listings, but that carb look a bit different than mine. As far as local parts stores, NAPA and Advanced Auto could not help me. I have a number for Gambles in Carthage, NY and will call them, but not holding my breath. Also visited Cutter's Choice, but will have to explore the site, more, to find the carb listings. Jackssmall engines comes up under the links for Walbro carbs. They list the OEM numbers for carb kits for the WJ carb, but the 24 number is not listed, goes from 23A to 26. Will call gambles and see what they say, ordered parts there before and get next day delivery. Will let you know what happens. Thanks again. Lewis.

Carburetor Kit for Walbro Carb.

Well guys, I called Gambles, they have the K10-WJ kit I need, but the UPS charges are as much as the KIt. They suggested I call Hacketts Hardware, Ogdensburg, NY and have them order the kit, that they delivered parts there every Tuesday. I called them and ordered the kit, so will hopefully have it next tuesday. Don't know if I'll save anything, but we'll see. Thanks again, for the replies and help. Lewis.

Carb kit replacement:

Just was thinking, that could be dangerous. The old Ryan was running fine earlier this year. Had some of the regular gas, left over from last year. I've sence bought some of that 10% oxygenated summer crap gas that we now have in NY and was thinking that it has effected the old diaphragms. Have ran about 3 tank full through it and letting her sit with gas in the tank, after use. Has anyone else had problems? Course next year the Carb will be 20 years old, assuming that it was stamped with 12/85 on the carb and the only thing ever done was to disassemble and clean the carb and adjust the needle, but, was wondering if anyone else has run into problems with using this gas in their equipment, (older or newer). Is this what we might expect from using this gas in older equipment, that eventually a person will have to rebuild his carburetors. Just a thought. Lewis.

Ryan Carburetor Kit.

Well guys, I got the kit. It was the wrong one. The old carb # was WJ-24 and apparently has been discontinued and replaced by carb # WJ-79-1 ( at $93.00), which the kit fits. I ended up putting the old carb back on the machine. It would run, but was blowing more fuel back out of the carb than it was burning. No way could you put the aircleaner housing back on the saw. She would just flood out and quit. I ended up removing the caab and for the heck of it removed the reed valve and turned it over. I also disassembled the carb and stretched the needle valve spring slightly to put more pressure on the needle. I then assembled the carb and started the weedeater and readjusted the carb. Now seems to idle fine and screems at WOT, with just a little blubber or 4 cycling. The only problem now is when you snap the throttle open, she hesitates slighly but accelerates. I opened the idle mixtrue screw 1/8 turn and even increaced the idle speed slightly, but the hesitation is still there. For a 19 year old machine, I guess I can live with it, for now. The next time I have it running I may open the high side a bit more to see if that may take care of the hesitation. Thanks for the help and suggestions. Lewis.
