Hello to all. I have a Homelite, model 5-20, and it looks like I need a Wico magneto coil for that saw. I found one listed on ebay, but when I contacted the seller the measurementss I gave, didn't match the coil that was listed. The part number for that coil was, Homelite part# 55986-A. Talked with Robert Johnson and he gave me a 5-30 part # of 52397. The coil I'm looking for measrues 2" in length measured along where the 7/16" square laminations run through the coil. It also measures 1-1/4" in diameter, not counting where the 5mm sparkplug wire attaches. The coil doesn't use the "E" shaped laminatons, but uses the straight bar laminations. I'll attach some pictures so that you can see what I'm looking for. Hopefully the Homelite people on this site will recognize the coil and can hellp me locate one. Thanks. Lewis.

Some Part numbers for the coil:

Hello to all. Got a reply back from Standard Magneto, who handles Wico parts. The coil is discontinued and they don't rewind that type of coil and have no NOS. The Prestolite part numbers for the Hoomelite, 5-20 are as follows:

Magneto ---- Part # FW 2415
Condenser-- Part # 2-5015
contact set- Part # 1-5017
Coil: -
Prestolite---- Part # 5-5023
Homelite ---- Part # 55403
Wico --------- Part # X9533

I'm hoping this may help in locating a coil. Does anyone happen to have any of the coil numbers listeed? Any help, is appreciated. Thanks. Lewis.

To Jacob J.

Jocob J. I'll check out Mike's site and if you would check the 5-20 you have I would appreciate it. I've sent out several emails and am waiting for info and replies. I wish I could get this coil rewound locally, but the people I contacted about rewinding another coil I had, don't do it amymore. I have some phone numbers to call, but will now have to wait till monday. Would like to get this saw going. It's in original shape and from what I can tell hasn't been run very much. Probably due to some problems I found with the fuel system (tank vent was never open to vent the tank) and the ignition problem. She looks like she still has the origingal bar and chain (although the 1/2" pitch chain is about 3/4's gone as far as tooth material left) and the 8 tooth drive sprocket has little wear. Piston and cylinder show original machine marks and crosshatching and crank/rod bearings are still tight. Inside of the carb looked new and very clean, except for the dried out diaphragms. Would be nice to see how a gear drive saw from that period, would handle in wood. I've never used one before. OK thanks for the reply, talk to you later. Take care. Lewis.

Magneto coil for Homelite, 5-20.

Hello to all. I've been told that the coil was used on the following Homelite saws, 17,17L, 5-20 and EZ models. Also that the Homelite part # 55403 is Wico part# 5-5023 instead of X9553. A little confusing, but the same numbers keep showing up for that coil. Anyone have an old parts saw, that possibly has a good coil? Thanks. Talk later and take care. Lewis.
