What is he cutting ? what size and diameter are these trees ?

What is your budget ?

Many good saws available out there and no such thing as the best one, you will purchase a saw from many good brands to do specific jobs. The most poular brands and easiest availability are Stihl, Echo, Jonsered, Husqvarna, Makita, Shindaiwa to name a few. The dealer you purchase it from is as important as the brand itself as it is like a marriage as you enter a long term relationship.

well if he wants performance an doesnt want new.i have an 026 that is an dan henry modified saw.if u dont know what that means ,it just mean its durable but cut better than u dealers saw of the shelf. very dependable ,very fast cutter . with several good chains and two different bars. one for 95vp [smooth an fast] and the issue size which is .63 with 16 inch chain and bar many chains to go with it.
im just not using my saws due to arthritus . it will cost u 300 + shipping.
if i thought id be using it a lot it wouldnt leave here for twice that.
if u are looking new . id recomend stihl 260. husky 346 ,dolmar , makita.
all these have good reps.
ps if u choose my saw . he may be disappointed when u get it. but that will change when he takes it to the wood.. he ll come back a happy man then. jmo.

Run down to RC Engines on forth street and look at the saws they carry I would go for the 440 or the 460 if its for fire wood and if its for the home owner I would go for the 260 pro I also only live one hour from you and you could call me if you some advise on saws Thanks Mike

Got a fairly new 260 today, that I bought on ebay. And an almost new 026 that is listed under "Used Equipment"

You can have either one of them for $300 plus $20 shipping.

Pictures of the 260 are attached. Go to Used Equipment and look up my listing on an "Almost New 026" for pictures of it.

You should also consider the Husky 353, it is probably the least costly pro quality saw on the market. It cuts fast and very smooth, especially with the 95VP chain that Tony mentioned. It also is a very ergonomic design, with all the nice features of a modern saw. If weight is the prime concern, the Stihl 260 weights less, but it is a much older design which vibrates a lot more, and it cost a lot more money new (In North America that is).

PS; You still haven't told us what use the saw is for, so all the recommendations here could possibly be for the wrong class of saws.........

It would also be nice to know if there is a price limit, to avoid us suggesting models that you won't by anyway.

I'll send you a Poulan 295 with three chains and a 20" bar for 110 dollars. Cuts nice and runs great. This saw is going down as one of the best Poulans made when it's all said and done.

Something to consider if you just want one saw for cheap and you are a home-owner. Also, a modern, light, maneuverable saw with little use.

Another question un-answered is "How much do you love your husband?" Degrees of love increase as you reach the posts above this one. This post is your lower rungs of love.
All posts above this post are "Lasting Impression Love" efforts.

Unreal. A lady - obviously with little knowledge of the subject -asks for advice, and all some of you see is a sucker to buy your latest saw.

Predators!

Glad to see there are a few gentlemen who are trying to help.

I can't help that much cause I'm not a pro, but I will ask this question which should help....is he looking to use this thing on the ground or in a tree or both? Ask him if he wants top handle or conventional..... then watch the responses really come in. Your husband's a lucky man to have a wife who'll help him out like you are...good luck,
J.D.

blueridge mark . nobody is trying to sucker the lady. i just happen to have a good saw that i cant use anymore. every word u read on this forum is no better than the credibility of the maN WHO SAYS IT. . a new saw will be fine for him. i just know the measures ive taken to get this saw rite. plus im throwing in probably a hundred bucks, worth of chains an bars. so no im not trying to take advantage.
that said. ,when he opens the gift ,a new saw will probably look better.

MS200T would make a nice gift.

I thought he was suggesting she buy him a Predator.
I was laughing. How do you measure that?
.5 bar I figure the one I saw on this board took up over 4 bar stools. I'll call 8 bar stools a bar.

Anyway, I think the whole thing was creating a new benchmark in the price of used saws. She can spell E-Bay, but it probably wouldnt be the kind of quality working saw offered here.

Hey, if you can measure horses in "hands"...
