Will a 5hp 220 volt high torque capaciator start and run motor work for a sawmill.I have 16" wheels and a 8 hp gas on it now.

How many amps does it draw? Not all 5hp electric motors are created equil.

Well, if it draws 15 amps at 220V, then it's an HONEST 3hp, i'd call that a little weak for a sawmill!

Single phase you would be looking in the 20-30A 220V range minimum.

A good 5 hp should run about 22a @220v
Most of the bigger shop bandsaws have a true 5 hp or bigger on them.
Look at resaw bs and see what they have on them they should compare pretty closely.

My 5hp Baldor brand motor draws 25.5 amps on 220V... My 7.5hp Baldor draws 37.5 amps on 220V.... Those motors put out some real power, and will last a LONG time doing it.
