Good day to everyone,

I need help finding the correct Stihl part numbers for my MS660.

I would like to convert the handle bars on my MS 660 from the "flush cut" style to the 3/4 wrap handle bars. My local dealer says the part numbers for wrap handles don't exist, yet they can order new saws/ MS660's with wrap handles. What's up with that? There must be a part number somewhere?

I also would like to change the original sprocket cover on my MS 660 with a complete "western style" sprocket cover, I believe that what they're called. Again, my Local Stihl dealer says the part numbers don't exist. Yet the can orders saws/MS660's with these special covers, and wrap handles installed. There's got to be part numbers somewhere?

Some other items I need part numbers for:

- Dual Port 066 Magnum Muffler, dual port cover, and Gasket

- Adjustable 066 Carburator, I currently have the H:3/4 L: 1/4 w/limiters. I believe the correct Carburator would be the H:1 L:1 w/o limiters, non-LED... aka red light special.

My MS 660 has been out of warrenty for over a year now. So in other words...Bring On the Mods!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's frustrating to work with the local dealer in my area. They will not even let me point out the parts I need off the parts breakdown CD ROM.

Thanks,

Nick Gajewski

spare parts

hey nick,i just recently got a project 090.asked the stihl dealer for a service manual and parts manual.no problem.any part i need,i write it down, give them the number and usually within a day or so i get the needed part.if i can do this with the 090,you got to be able to do it for your 066.unless they are not willing to help in which case i suggest you find another dealer.robert.

You don't need a different carb; just defeat the limiters if necessary.

The "Magnum" muffler front cover is part number 1122-140-0800 which comes complete with screen and screw to hold it.  No gasket needed.  Merely swapping out the front covers adds 15% speed to the cut times.  You should remove some of the restriction in the baffle basket inside the muffler, and adjust the carb as necessary, and expect a little more yet.

Try the attached PDF file for the handlebar, and don't neglect the sprocket cover stuff which affords increased protection for your hand while on the power output side of the crank.

1122 790 3603 is the part number for your wrap handle. You'd save a lot of money though by going to http://www.madsens1.com and purchasing a USA aftermarket fullwrap for 066 there, as they cost $40 and the Stihl handle is $120.00.

1122 648 0601 is the part number for your sprocket cover. This is the complete cover with chip deflector, dawg, and chain guides. it retails for $69.00.

1122 140 0800 - dual port muffler cover - $42.00!
1122 149 0500 - muffler front gasket - these gaskets are $13.00, no joke.

The fully adjustable carb is no longer available through Stihl from Walbro. You will have to contact Walbro directly and request a WJ-66 or WJ-68 carburetor, those were two of the fully adjustable models used on earlier 066 and 064 saws. Expect to pay $90.00 for a brand new one.

Wow! Thank you so much everyone for the part numbers.

Before I run off to the Stihl dealer and start ordering, I have some quick questions...

The wrap handle bar #1122 790 3603, does this come as a complete assembly? or are there additional parts that must ordered to complete installation?

Which carburator is most desirable? The WJ-66 or the WJ-68? or doesn't it make much difference?

Otherwise, everything else seems straight forward. I'll order:

Item 1122 140 0800, Magnum Dual Port Muffler Cover.

Item 1122 149 0500, Gasket

Item 1122 648 0601 Complete Sprocket Cover Assembly.

Contact Walbro, for the Carburator.

Well Thanks again everyone.

Instead of buying the $13 muffler gasket make your own using some high heat gasket material from your auto parts supplier.

It works well and beside the stihl gasket is going to become brittle and break the first time you remove the cover after it's run a bit.

I don't pinch pennies but I refuse to pay 13 bucks for that tiny gasket. Anybody found a way around the expensive pto side bearing? Stihl's got a monopoly on those too. John

Stihl bearings etc

If you look up the bearing number,by manufacture,be it Fafner ***,or any other,it will be listed oem.In other words the Stihl company owns all rights to that bearing. This is typical of most German made products.Good stuff, but they controll the after market,or at least try to.You could get a generic metric bearing, set up an o.d. grinder and grind the inside radius and the outside step,on some, bearings. Then power flush the bearing,to get all the grinding dust out of it,then install.Instead of paying $30 or so,you only have about $12 in the bearing. You will ,however have about $100,in machine shop fees.;)

I repeat.  You do not need the muffler cover gasket in this application.  No need to buy one; no need to make one.
