Has anyone here ever changed the the vertical shaft and/or bushings on the main engine /boom [not even sure exactly what its called???]

Does it have bushings that wear out ,or does it wear the pin itself? Combo of both maybe?

Mine has started to show definite signs of wear. The wheel climbs about an inch at the end of each sweep due to the slop in the joint.

Is it a repair that is do-able with floor jack and cribbing? Or chain support from above?
Or is it one of those things best left to the steeler?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have never taken mine apart, but I believe it is on tapered bearings. There is a large nut on the shaft (don't remember if it is top or bottom of the shaft) Get a socket and a large breaker bar and try tightening the nut before you tear it down. If memory serves me right it should solve your problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I think that came up when I did a search on the topic here. But I think the tightening only works for the horizontal bolt that controls the up-down motion. The vertical gets torqued to a certain spec and thats it.At least thats what the search found . I'll give it a look see though.

Thanks.
