Remove muffler and drill as many 1/2'' holes as possible through the baffle (cat) plate. This opens them up nicely, cuts down on heat and allows them to flow.
You may be having the walbro hda199 carb issues, that were typical in this series of saws. If you do a search here there is lots of info.

You can get a carb kit for about 10 bucks just about anywhere. The diaphragms are easy to replace. I found a factory stock non-cat muffler at Bailey's (a site sponsor) for $41 dolla's and on one of the aftermarket sites I frequent had a new aftermarket 357 /359 non cat muffler for $23.

Is there a carb that would bolt right in place of the hda 199
SB, 357 XP, 359, Introduction of new carburetor for better idling stability,
2008-10

To achieve better idling quality, a new carburetor has been introduced in the production. The new name of the carburetor is Zama C3-EL42, replacing Walbro HDA199A/B and HDA191A.

New part number for the carb is 505203001.

Also, requires a different flange, part number 503928502.

Introduced from serial numbers:
357XP 083800001
359 084500001

The same changes was done on the 2156 and 2159.

If the new flange didn't fit the Warbro carb, the SB likely would have said that the old one would still be availiable as a spare part.
