can anyone help me identify this tree?
I beleive that is sasafrass.
David and I came across this tree a few days ago while googling for something else.

no. they have fan shape leaves and are the only one in its family. we have a lot of them here.
Not a common name in Dirr (it has the same cultivar name though). I'd call it a "Rotundiloba Sweet gum"... whether that is 'correct' nomenclature or not, I don't know but that is what I'd go with until told otherwise.
the "leaf4" photo leaves no doubt that it was Sweet gum...props to Sylvia for finding the cultivar.
