A local repair shop and dealer (Blacksburg Power Equipment) recently "lost" a used Stihl 026 my brother had given me. I had dropped it off for some service. They didn't seem to be feel bad about it as they pretty much said here's what it's worth and didn't want to help me get a new saw. I asked if they could discount a new saw (just to cost so they wouldn't be making profit off of losing my saw) and they rejected saying they would be losing money (not true). So I just took my money and don't plan to ever go back.
Anyway, I now need to buy another saw to replace the one they lost. I am not a professional but am a healthy and active 30 year old. I use my saw maybe 4 times a year to clear deadfall on our driveway, property and trails. My trail cleanups can be multiple hours in the woods. A fair amount of what I am clearing is pretty big (>12") so I looking for a decent amount of power so I won't wear down the saw. Lightweight is preferred but not really looking to pay more money just to get a lighter weight saw. I was looking to replace with a Stihl since that's what the dealer had (and my dad is loyal to Stihl) but now I would be open to other suggestions given my use case. I had chosen a 271 before they told me they weren't going to give me a discount. I was hoping to get something for closer to $300 but not sure I can get something reliable at that price without a discount.
Let me know what you think I should get and why.
