I am looking to get a decent chainsaw mount for my ATV. I would like something that doesn't take up rack space, I am aware of a few that are out there. I would like some opinions on what you use or what product is the best out there. Thanks

I know you've said you don't want to take up rack space, but you're better off carrying a chainsaw in the hard case that the manufacturer provides. They make cheap bungee nets that are designed for atv racks.I've managed to always secure the saw to the rack, regardless of load size.

I've carried saws in rack sheaths and the power head gets caked with mud, water and everything else that gets slung up from the tires. Not to mention I've seen a number of saws bent and beat to sh!t from roll overs

They need to make a sheath model that mounts horizontally to the rack and includes a full case. You'd lose no rack space yet the saw would be fully protected.

Homemade .....

Here is what we made a few months ago on a raining day... Did not really cost anything, I had the plywood and bolts setting around. I don't use it muddin, as other's mention the chain is not protected real well from the mud. But I just use it checking fence lines, or when running down to cut a close log. Might rig up a mud flap or chain guard if it is a problem, so far not a problem for me....

Here is my home made saw rack, the two pins hold it on, it has a thin rubber pad glued on it.
The chain allows you to use as many bungee cords as needed.
The surplus duffle bag holds the saw. That is my 034 with about 3000 kilometers sitting on there. Been thru rivers mud holes etc etc.

I like Creeks simple design but i would make the plywood pieces long enough so that it covers the full length of the bar. You could also mount the full plywood scabbard higher or at an angle if you needed to. My 2c.
