Need recommendation on a decent priced log roller. Going to be doing some cutting up in NY next month. Need one either from online ordering or they have TSC and HD locally.

I'm not looking to spend more than necessary but at the same point I'll be rolling some big logs so can't chance it with a real cheap one either.

Go!

I have a Peavey brand cant hook with a 5' wooden handle. It has been invaluable to me. They are not cheap, but should last your, and your son's lifetime. Probably your grandson will have some kind of jet powered grapple and not need it.

I've got the 3 foot wood handled one from Northern Tool and don't have any complaints. I think it was $40. I remember seeing several people saying the handle was too short but I guess either I'm a real he-man or somebody didn't pay attention to the "leverage" discussion in physics class... I can flip anything up to ~18" around like a popsicle stick, and anything I can manage to grab over that size doesn't give me much trouble either.

I wouldn't buy a "cheap" one unless you plan on leaving it there. If it's something you are going to hold on to and don't want to worry about breaking or failing then just buy the logrite or the woodchuck. I have the woodchuck and I have rolled some monsters. I would never put the amount strain and stress on a wood handle as I do that. 20151114_124451.jpg

Also...any reason in this day and age someone would need a Peavey over a cant hook?
Both serve the same function. I think peaveys were used more, hence the point, to ride logs on rivers. Can't remember the site I was looking at the other day, but someone had 60" Logrite peaveys and cant hooks for $107 I believe it was. Best out there. I can't flex mine no matter how big a log I try to roll. Well worth the money. If you can score a Logrite for a decent price, keep it at the house, take a lesser and leave where you're going. Peaveys also have an advantage with the long point to help pry frozen logs apart in a pile as well.

Right, that's what I am thinking. Cant hooks normally have a spur at the end of the handle, which should (in theory) allow better grip for rolling logs.
I edited that previous post and added a few more lines...hit the post reply accidentally.

Middle of the road as well is the Ironton brand I think it is from NT...yellow fiberglass handle with a 3/8" steel rod through the center, lengthwise. Think they run about $70 or so. I've got a couple of their two man 54" log carriers I picked up on sale for $50 each. Good and strong log carriers.
