I'm sure the Rancher would have been fine as well, but it wasn't discounted at the same and the Echo was, with a cheaper starting price as well. The 590 also has a similar system called "G-Force Pre-Air Cleaner, or something like that". It also has a magnesium crank case, instead of clamshell, pro saw style, "professional grade engine", whatever that means, electronic ignition, and the translucent fuel tank is a nice touch. Apparently when you grind some plastic tabs down it also has more power, since it's carb compliant by precisely ground transfer ports instead of the stratoscavenge, or something-or-other, from what I've been reading.
