I have always read about people using a pickaroon to help with handling firewood. I don't have one, didn't think I needed one. We have a hay hook that my grandpa used to use for handling square bales. One day, a thought popped into my head why not try that. It works better than I thought it would for firewood. Although not sure how long it will hold up to firewood use. The tip is getting bent. One thing I don't like about it is the shock when hitting the wood being a one piece metal.

I went for 10 or more years after I heard about them. I refused to buy one as I thought that somewhere around $60 was too much to pay for what is basically a "nail in a stick". Yes, I did try the nail in stick - didn't word at all. Then one day I decided to bite the bullet and get one. One use and I proceeded to beat my rear sore kicking it for not getting one sooner.

I now have 3 of them, one 36" and two 24". 36 pretty well stays with the truck, other two around the splitter area ( I haul all rounds home and split them there)

You really ought to buy a real one, they work much better that a hay hook.

Yep, like Harry says, I looked at pickaroons and laughed--like I really need something like that. Until I tried one. It's a great tool.

I used hay hooks for hay in the past, but not sure I'd want to try one on wood--like the OP says, your hand is too close to the impact of driving the point into wood and you'll feel that.

I am looking into getting one now. Don't think the hay hook will last for wood, only used it in cottonwood. Was looking at the fiskars 28" hookaroon. Everywhere I have looked, they are sold out.

There must be a supply issue. Looked up the Logrite at baileys and it is out of stock as well.

Try a Stihl dealer. Their hookaroon is a copy of he logright but they only had a 24" last time I shopped.
If you are talking about the timber tuff, I have read bad reviews saying the spike brakes really easy.

Looked on ebay and didn't see any logrites or fiskars but they do have others like biltek which look like the logrite. Not sure how good they are.
