Helped a friend of mine purchase a nice 395XP today with a 28" bar for $400. Told him if he didn't buy it, I would.
He really needs a 36" bar for some big fir he needs to cut into firewood, so the question is 3/8" or .404", and if a 3/8" is .058" adequate, or should he opt for a .062"?

3/8 is much more user friendly. On a 395 I doubt you'll cut faster with a .404 on a 36" bar. I run a 36", 3/8, .050 without problems, but .058 or .063 would be less likely to break a chain.
If your friend isn't happy with his purchase, I'll take it off his hands. :innocent:

He got a 372XP box saw and a 394 block and fuel tank for another $20 as part of the deal. I replaced the missing parts with those from my 372 and got his box saw up and running. The plug looked a little lean, but the compression measured a solid 155 psi. Should be able to replace the missing parts on his 372 for about $100 and he can use the 28" bar off the 395XP with a full skip chain on his 372XP. I'm pretty sure that he'll give me the 394 block, which seems to have been used for a parts saw. Kind of surprising as the piston is in fine shape. Go figure.
