Pretty scary. It looks like the spar you've tied in for support could possibly be ripped out by the spars you are attempting to support. But by the picture, I can't tell exactly how its set up. Not that there is a way to actually set a pos like that tree up . I mean if you want to do it right you should have just wound a boatload of road around the thing like wrapped up Christmas tree!

You've taken a can a worms and turned it into a different can of worms but that is just how I see it.

I did a cable installation today. three huge oak lead to a floating rig guy hub. It was tough, real tough. People don't want to spend the money but if you are going to do it, you have to do it right. The tree I cabled had a older common grade cable that was about 1/4 of the way up to the top. One of the cables ripped off and thats why they called me.

I can't give an opinion on that pic because its tough to see.

Next time try a floating hub. But bring three climbing lines so you can triple crotch yourself.

Put cable in ash tree today. What do you 'all think about it.

Can't tell from the pic, did you throughbolt it? Not a big fan of cabling either, but if you're going to do it, do it right. Lags are kind of like a midget doing a fat chick... Going through the motions but nothing's really getting accomplished.

I can't see any thimbles, looks like you just weaved it through the eyes and anchored the cable on its self. If thats the case that cable is gonna fray in no time.

looks a bit loose also... but than again I do not cable at all.

Just kidding with the post. I saw this "cable job" while going down the road and could not believe the set up
All hardware store connections, loose, small cable grips, not properly installed in any way shape or form and placed way too low in canopy. No thimbles and no through bolts.

I'd rather do 10 cable jobs than 1 removal. Liability is no problem really; work by standards and use a disclaimer.

did you ever try th enew wedgegrips?

After the wedgegrips were redesigned the first time I did not think the improvement was enough. Now the newer design looks a bit more reliable. However, we switched back to the Rigguys and have been using them. Wedgegrip people lost me as a customer due to their defective design and inability to keep supply up to demand. I also had a few more fail and replaced them with the Rigguys. How about you? Still using them?
