New chainsaw rack

I just finished building a rack for the inside of my Excursion for my 394xp and 346xp. It was getting to be a big mess in the back and hard to get the one tool you needed. Tell me what you think.

Man that is heavy duty stuff.I hope those saw don't come flying forward if you have to slam on the binders.There was a lady killed in Vancouver when her laptop came from the back of her car and nailed her in the back of the head after she crashed into a truck.The medical examiner said she would have survived the crash if the laptop had not hit her.

I'm pretty sure that right there is a good example of why God made pickup trucks.

Pickups cost less then Excursions so......

Trucks are great but what do you do when you go to Wal-Mart? I don't want my $1,500 worth of saws or anything else disappearing.

The rack is roped down to the D-ring in the floor. It is not going to be flying anywhere.

Got this one for free (gift from FIL) so I don't think trucks are cheaper than that. And as long as it's not a diesel, you can find Excursions very cheap. Mine would only bring about $6,000.

Plus pickups aren't near as nice on long trips with the family.

I really like my Excursion. It is 4x4, has great power (V10), seats 8 comfortably, and will tow 12,000 lbs with no problems at all. (I know, I do it almost daily.)

Those are nice for sure, I was just messing with ya.

Pickup is still better then having saws and fuel in the cabin with people.

Not a bad idea at all, but don't kid yourself about what would happen in a crash. A crash at 30 mph can generate 40 to 50 g's. So that 394 alone will weight something like 1050 to 1350 pounds.
The two logs and the two saws can have a combined weight of 4000 plus pounds and that's at 30 mph what would it happen at 55mph?
The D hooks may hold, but will the hand full of wood screws you have holding the logs and saw hold?
Since the saws are up high I wouldn't count on the seat to stop/slow them down.
Just something to think about from one Husky guy to another.

I'm not trying to join the band wagon or knock your creativity but I have real concerns about that much wieght being at head level. I'm a full time firefighter and see many injury accidents,(1052's). Stuff like that can and does go flying. I've seen plumbing vans where pretty much everything in the back flew to the front and took out the windshield from the inside. It t-boned a delivery truck and it was maybe 30 mph. The driver was saved by a very well made headache rack that was only as wide as the driver's seat. Any chance of putting them side ways right behind the front seats through the side doors? Just hate to see bad things happen to good people.

I'm not sure I could handle the oil stains in the carpet and smell in anything I drive. I always take the bars off the powerheads and put the powerheads in rubbermaid containers if they must ride inside.. But then I usually take the bars off the poweheads for just driving around, too.

The V10 is powerful but not that powerful.

I carry 14 saws in my truck and it's a pain to try and keep them still. Looks like a good setup, maybe not 100% safe but at least they stay put.
