Hello All,

Im 24 years old and use my money..... sparingly. Have been cutting wood to heat my garage/shop/bar for 2 years on a splitter i made from scratch. This fall I've been lucky enough to have a steady supply of dead oaks. My splitter splits great, but my feather like 140 lb body does not make lifting the trunks of the trees very easy by myself. Im wondering what the easiest way to build a hoist on the rear of my I beam, and how I could get the dang thing to swivel. Please help, my back is relying on you folks.

Engine hoist with a farm wagon hub to rotate.
Weld or bolt on.
Atv winch and log tongs.

While not on a splitter (not yet anyway) I did the similar setup and made it removable from my truck. I made a spindle on the bottom of an engine hoist I had and added a cheapy atv winch with some upgraded cable and it will lift as big a piece as most splitters can handle.100_2404.JPG

With a hoist like Sam-tips you can extend your rope or cable out to drag big ones to the splitter.
Ive used Dougs,it works good IMO.

Agree about the rope or cable. I have a control cord for my winch that is 20ft long. Not sure how much cable is actually on the reel. If I have a big round, I simply take the log tongs in one hand and the control cable in the other and walk over to the round, hook up the tongs and winch the round onto my splitter. Fact is, it has made me lazy and I will winch up rounds I can probably lift and carry faster than I can winch, but I dont get as tired using the winch. I have winched up small logs right up to the splitter before bucking, and kept the round suspended while I buck the log.
