saying cold for sat and sun. Thats what we want to hear.. frozen ground.
Please do not saw into my dirt.. It is hard as hammered hell. and will dull your chain. trust me

Great! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, running some saws, and making some firewood for someone who can put it to good use.

I got the saws pretty much ready to go. The 076 Super even got new intake gaskets, new clutch drum and sprocket, new AV buffers, and the governor in the carb was finally disabled. Got a few new wedges, a new timberjack, and an extra gallon of winter bar oil, too. I still have a few chains to sharpen up, but otherwise everything is ready to go! Oh, and for those who want to try out the 7900, I'll bring a few fresh loops of semi-chisel, round chisel, and square chisel, so you can test it out with whatever you'd like.

I am curious to see how that 7900 outmeasures my 6400

Would like to run em side by side.. What size bar are you bringing for the 7900? so we can be on fairly even grounds. your 7900 against my 6400..

Might be late but I'll be there

Well Eric it looks I'm gonna make it!! Don't know if I'll make the 8:30 - 9:00 start time. I wont get off work until about 3:00am Friday night and I have a 45 min. drive home, I'd like to get a few hours sleep before running the saws. What size wood are we looking at? I'll probably bring the MS260 w/16" and the MS460 w/20" bar, and a digital cam to catch all the fun. Will I need to bring one of the longer bars maybe the 24"? I can bring a 16 foot trailer if we need it, just let me know. I know you said you had to skid the trees up to the field, is the wood pretty clean or is it covered in dirt, should I bring the dirt chains. I got the GPS coordinates off of the sat photo so I can find it, I'll just follow the sweet sound of the saws when I get there to find you all. Where should I park, can I drive to the cut site (4 wheel drive) or will I need to park at the house and walk? Looking forward to meeting all of you and checking out some of the other saws since I'm strictly a Stihl man.

I'll see you all there looking forward to some beans even if the wife isn't.:fart:

well clean wood for the most part.

20 inches for the most part will do it. The one hickory in the attached photo is as big as we have drug up and it will require a 24 inch for the first sevral cookies. and I will probably let us make cookies out of most of it. Hell a cookie will burn in my stove.
All depends on the temps.. if you see the rest of us all buried to the frames.. Might wanna stay up by the house.. It is supposed to be cold. so it should be frozen.
No trailer will be needed.
You may not be a Stihl man when you leave.. going to be a few nice Dolmars there.

Just a few miles down the road.

Don't whimp out over a few miles.. Ok well more than a few. But there are guys coming from Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky.. and of course Hoosiers are all expected to be here.. LOL. It is for a good cause.. donate a little farwood, and play with chainsaws. 30 miles south of Indy

A box of goodies arrived today.

Thanks Tony..I will put the stuff into the grab bags.. I sure do like em screnches..gonna hate to part with them.. LOL But I will.
Boys and girls. Tony sweetend the pot with some freeby knick knacks for us.
Looking forward to meeting as many of you as can make it. Beans and cornbread for dinner. I will put a pot of coffee on and have it in the garage too.

The countdown is on...less than two days to go!

Got the saws prepped when I got home this evening, the saw box all filled up, all but two chains sharpened (broke the grinder wheel and I'm out of 3/16" files...oops), got my cuttin' clothes ready to go, and I even got myself some bottles of Coke for the road! I'm looking forward to meeting y'all and doing some cutting.

We've got to take a detour over to South Bend on the way down to meet the guy who bought Kris' truck cap (6:30-7:00am), but we should be there about 10:30 or so.

Ready

Well I ran out of time today. I did get the saws moved from the barn to the garage but didnt have time to prep them. Hope they were put away right! When I get off that morning will stop by the house to load up the saws and logrites and quick shower then on the way.

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get....

I am so far behind, it is unreal. I have 5 chains to sharpen after I get home from work in the morning, 3 carbs to retune from 16:1 to 40:1, and of course, fuel to mix. Been working 2 hours overtime every day and sacrificing my saw maint time. Bad. Isn't it amazing how work intrudes on important stuff? Not to worry — I will get them done. I may show up with a couple of chains on backwards, but what the hey.

LOL we have two gasoline powered splitters.

and my 15 year old son to run the handle.. He is not much with a maul, but I guess I have spoiled him..

Anybody use 3/8 063 chains?????????? I have a brand new 20"Stihl RS chain I got with my 066. I run 3/8 050. Trade me? I'll throw it in my chain box if anyone has an interest. Eric, kind of melty over in Terre Haute. How's the field holding up?

Hoping we can get in there early.

Load up a couple of loads. and get out.. we can carry saws back out later.. after we play. I Am hoping you are bringing your mill setup . I am going to get up early and get both splitters moved into the woodlot. I already have a load on my dually, and a load on my dads 3/4 ton shortbed. The load on my dually is fairly seasoned wood I got out of the barn. I want to unload it last so she will be using it first.
I figure if we get in there early hit it hard we can get a couple more loads pretty easy by Noon. Then we can get trucks out if it is going muddy. Then eat, then head to her house to unload.. Then all meet back here again to make some cookies and mill some slabs. I am going to try to get that nice hickory log up off the ground and onto something so we can do some timed cuts..

see you in the morning..

should be a great day no matter what the nasty old weatherman gives us..

And it happens just that fast

First thing the boss says to me tonight when I get to work is you gotta work tomorrow. Thats the whole reason I waited until the last minute to say for sure that I was coming :bang: So it looks like I'm out:cry: man I already had the saws gassed up loaded and ready to go too. Even had the 084 loaded, I just picked up a 21" bar and an 8 pin (want a 10) sprocket for it and wanted to see what that was like (the smallest bar I've had until now was the 36"). On the bright side at least they have to pay me time and a half for coming in on Saturday.;) might just pay for the bar, sprocket and the 4 new chains I just bought. Well as you can see from the post time its time for bed. You guys take lots of pics so I can see what I missed. Have fun, saw safe and I’ll try to make the next one.
