I think it is the same starter help (or rather pull help) system that are on the e-series Husky homeowner class saws, and about the same as the Stihl "easy start".

....not something that I would want, but it is a help for some disabled or seriously weak men - and a part of the female population.

My wife runs my saws from time to time, but I usually have to start them for her.

The Easy Starter systems on the Husqvarna and Stihl are completely different. The Husqvarna system works 100 times better than Stihl's in my opinion. It's easier for anyone to start the Husqvarna and it takes less pulls on the starter. I would guess the Johnny saw would use the same system as Husqvarna.

Might just be a coincidence, or it might not - every Shindaiwa saw I own starts on the second pull. Full choke, pull, crack. No choke, pull, start. Either they are good starters by nature or I have the carbs set just right. Either way, no need for a whimpy-start on my saws.

I have a Pro Mac 60 sitting in the shed with a compression release, and I think it is old enough to run for president

Interesting!

I have also noted that Husky claims the same weight as for the standard saws, while the Stihl system adds .3 kg (2/3 of a pound).

I haven't had to do it yet, but what's it like to change the rope or starter spring on one of these things?

And to think 10 or so years ago no saw had a compression release!!!:dizzy:
My John Deer Saw has compression release on it. Made by Echo.
Back then no one care about weight.

I think the compression release serves two purposes:

Makes it a little easier to start, esp bigger saws

Makes it easier to lighten up the saw a hair because the makers can get by with lighter rewind components.

Maybe in some cases, but I thing that they use the same components on the MS260 Pro vs. the regular one - and on the Husky 353 (with deco) vs.the 346xp (without).....
