Hello to everyone

I've read back about 100 pages or so over the last couple weeks. There are tons of great information here so thank you to everyone for contributing.

I'm new to working on chainsaws... not new to 2 cycle... raced MX for years and worked on my own stuff, had a great time with nitro RC and even tried my hand at porting....

Now I have a question ( I know... another rookie with a stupid question ) ...

Stihl 038 : Will a CYL/Piston set for a magnum, super, whatever work with a standard 038? Is the only difference the bore size?

Are the bottom ends the same on all models?

I intend to get a repair manual, but have not to this point and it would be easier to order the cyl/piston and manual all at the same time.

not shure but sthil did that alot on other models call your local dealer if he has specs on them

I don't believe that 038 supers can be mixed and matched with 038 Magnums, however a super may fit the Magnum, but not vics versa. I believe the jug on the magnum is too big to clear the super's crankcase.
BTW, welcome to aboristsite.

Hi
The 038 (48 mm Bore) and the 038 Super (50 MM Bore) pistons and cylinders are interchangeable. The 038 Mag had a larger bolt pattern on the base then the other two. They all had the same stroke, 34 mm.
