Greetings...

I'm new to the ArboristSite and I have enjoyed reading the various forums. I learned about the site from some folks over in the ????????? forum.

I recently picked up the Stihl MS192T and I really like the saw.

I bought it with the 14" .050 MS200T bar, but I have switched to the 12" bar, which is a bit faster and I don't think I will miss the extra bar length.

I have been toying with the idea of getting back into carving, but wondered if the 192T top handle design is not safe for carving. I know the MS200 rear handle is popular. I'd love to hear any comments on carving with the 192T.

I have thought about selling my 14" bar & chains, but wonder if anyone felt I should hold onto them.

I'll have limited use for the 192T, and don't expect to tackle cutting jobs thicker than 8" with the saw. I thought about maybe picking up a 16" bar, but I'd rather stay with a bigger saw for bigger jobs.

Anyway... I look forward to hangin' around the forums and I hope everyone has a great holiday season.

If you wait a little longer the MS192 rear handle with easy start system will be out within a couple of months.
Glad you like your saw.
A carver I know uses a 170 and a 210 to do his carvings.

Thanks for the post. I look forward to seeing a rear handle MS192.

Easy start? I was in my local lawn equipment shop/Stihl dealer yeaterday, and a very angry customer came in with the MS180C-BE . He had travelled a good distance into NJ to fell some Christmas trees and his 180 would not start. I followed the conversation, and it sounded like he flooded the saw. He was real mad because he had not taken anyother saws and the land owner didn't have a saw available. He was a retire landscaper with lots of bigger Stihl saw experience.

Anyway, when I 1st got the 192T, the dealer told me how easy these babys are to flood, especially the easy start models. I have followed his advice, and have had perfect starting from the 192T, even on some of our very cold days lately.

The dealer said he would have no problem modding my muffler, but said to wait until the saw goes out of warranty.

cheers

Yeah I have seen mad customers who didn't listen to the starting procedure as it was explained to them when they purchased the saw. Don't seem to have any starting problems once explained to them the second time. They seem to listen better after a good drive.:hmm3grin2orange:
