Dude, not a problem at all. Does it have the dual port cover on it? Most of the 046/460 glory stories you've read on here involve at least the dual port muffler cover. Makes a big difference. And yes, it will liven up as it breaks in.

And again....... Jeff RULES:bowdown:

Yep, the chain is on the right direction (doesn't hurt to ask). I'm using full comp chisel. Look guys, I was probably a bit torqued when I first posted, because I have had a little difficulty getting the 460 tuned for elevation (richened up), and the cutting speed is less than I expected. As "fishhuntncut" said, I'm mistakenly expecting hot saw performance based on what I've read here, and due to the fact that I've not cut with any other saw except my 50cc Jonny. Plus I'm sure my poor sawing techniques don't make full use of the 460's capabilities.

Of course the 460 is faster, but I'm hoping it will wake up a bit more after it breaks in. I apologize if I sounded like a troll. I'll take it to the dealer and have him run it in some wood, see if it feels right to him and let him check the oiler.

Thanks for letting me blow off some steam.

When I forst put my 460 to wood, I wa ssurprised at how it handled a 28" bar with full skip RS. Using all 28" of the bar it didnt hiccup.

After about a gallon of fuel through it, it got even better. If you dont have the DP muffler cover, get one, before they are gone. It does at least keep the saw cooler, if not also boost the power a little.

Coming from a different point of view. I wouldn't cut firewood with anything smaller than a 460 (Stock.) I am underwelmed by the 460 also, but it is a best in class saw.

Fred

Run both saws against a clock. You'll be suprised.

Jred's vs. Stihl's

I have a 2145 Jred, and it will out cut my 026.

I prefer the 026 as it is of better quality (but slightly slower).

In the time trial test performed this summer, 4 cuts, 9" log:

The Jred was 24 sec
The 026 was 34 sec

And to put it in perspective I grabbed the MS460, 13 seconds.
Yes the 460 will smoke a 50cc saw. The only mod is a slightly opened up muffler. Since then I have changed to a 8 tooth sprocket.

All of these saws are stingy on oiling the chain. In fact in green wood I have had the chain come to a smoking stop after a dozen cuts in large wood. Irritating....
