So I left work today from my very comfortable and relatively well paying job at the hospital and went out to buzz around all the local saw shops, annoy the employees with stupid questions I already know the answers to, and casually price a new saw. Nauseated by the price of a new 460 or 372xp I thought, "what the heck, I'm gonna look for a project saw". Pawn shops came up empty so I thought, "where else could I look?". I went to the office of one of the bigger tree outfits in the area and told them I had a strange question. The lady (manager) at the desk looks at me like "who is this guy?". I asked if they ever unloaded their used equipment. She pointed to a VERY well loved chipper truck in the parking lot with a "for sale" sign hanging crookedly in the window and who's cheese had kinda slid off its cracker, so to speak, and said, "that's it." I clarified by specifically asking about saws, just then, a guy who I can only guess is a foreman or some sort of big cheese, walked in and said that they use it all to death and when they're done with it it's past the point of no return. He asked why I wondered. I told him I was looking for a project saw. He asked why I wanted such a big saw, I told him that I was picking up odd jobs for opportunities to work outside and keep myself sane doing work I enjoy doing and feel fairly confident in my limited and somewhat new skills. Somewhere in the course of the short conversation I asked if they had any trouble finding people who wanted to climb for them. They said yes and as a matter of fact they were in real need of a part time climber. The lady's eyes got all big and she anxiously asked if I climbed. I said I was fairly new to it but was certainly comfortable with it and have successfully done several jobs already this spring and was learning fast. Before I could finish she shoved an application in my face. She said they were very flexible with hours, generous with pay, and their full time guy was looking for a prodigy or at the very least, a shadow with a willingness to learn.

Coincidence? Who knows... I have the app here and I'm going to fill it out. I figure it doesn't hurt to investigate. We'll see where this goes.

I think its a homerun for you. As long as its a respectable outfit you can learn at lightspeed from an experienced pro as opposed to trying to figure it out on your own.

Congrats on your move! I have seen your "I did it myself" thread and nice work BTW. The advise I would give you is 'you know nothing' and use that to learn from guy who do. I am not saying it to be mean but go into the job with a clear mind it will help you leaps and bounds being open and willing to learn. Stay safe

I'm willing to move to Utah to become your hospital job replacement!
Work safe. The learning curve is very sharp and unforgiving.

Awesome i hope it works out for you,but if you aren't careful at least you know everyone at the hospital.

You're doomed... No way out for you now... You might as well kiss your hospital job goodbye... Noone here gets out alive... :greenchainsaw:
