This evening I spent a few hours putting new rings in and measuring the old vs new rings etc.

Ideally I should have an end gap of around 0.30mm, but I have 0.42mm - the cylinder is a little worn, but it’s still good

Piston skirt to cylinder wall is 0.097mm so that’s fine.

The old ring end gap was 0.85mm! Anything is better than that!

Anyway, tomorrow I’ll do a quick video of the first start.

What have you got planned for the weekend?

We're expecting a day or two of rain. Started putting my 543xp back together this morning, hoping to finish it by tomorrow.

The original filters sold with these allowed a small amount of fines through. Over time (900+ hours) that added up to some serious crown deposits that ignited and pitted. Cleaned and sanded the piston last weekend but misplaced the motoseal for the gasket. Cylinder wasn't too bad so I'll give it a go and hope for the best. New rings, new gasket, and a few cycles of the carb through an Ultrasonic.

Be nice to have her running again.

Cheers!
