To start with I use kerosene and brushes to clean the saw with plenty of compressed air to do an initial cleaning after breaking the saw down into it sub assemblies, that of cource after removing the magneto assembly so as to not get it wet or soaked with solvent. I then pressure wash everything I can. On the Mall 6 I reassembled everything after I got the parts I needed to get her running and made sure she would start. From there I disassembled the saw, sandpapered, scrapeed, steel wooled, wire brushes and used everything including dental pics to remove paint, etc. I then washed everything using Simple Green an plenty of hot water to do a final cleaning and dried everything. I did some more steel wooling, blew off any debre and primed her and repainted her. Took almost 2 weeks to just clean and repaint. Sure would be faster with a glass beed machine, maby someday. May be alot of hand work, but I enjoy the results. OK, talk later. Take care. Lewis.

Dayuuuum Lewis, that's a helluvia work you put in there. I usually quit after the compressed air and kerosene cleaning with brush. I just hate the repaint and paint preparation works as they are so time consuming.

I think with you the "real" collector stood up.
My hat is off to you. good work !

Thanks for ther replies.

The Mall 6 is fairly well, done. I just got some decals off ebay for her and will copy and make decals for her. She sitll needs the rear handles repaired/replacaed and a sheet metal cover for the helper handle, but talked to a fellow who may have what I need from a parts saw. Will know on March 10th. When I had the old girl running was surprised at how quiet she sounded for a 12.19 cu in engine. Like the Disston DA-211,she has a sound all her own. On the Reed Prentice saw, just had to make a carburetor diaphragm for her, clean and repaint. Will let the paint cure for awhile on all the saws and restart them when the weather gets warmer. The Mall OMG just needed a carb diaphragm kit for the Tilly HP carb and points cleaned, then repainting. Got some McCulloch projects to work on, but may wait for spring weather to start them. Thanks again for the replies. Everyone take care. Lewis.

Good to hear from you again Lewis and nice work as always. Did you ever have any luck with that old Mac I sent you?

Old Mac:

Hello Datatwins. As I said in the previous thread, I have some Mac projects to work on, one being yours. I've made a new carb diaphragm for her, repaired the brackets for the tank mounts on the right side and replaced some missing parts. I've gotten her to pop and Idle for a few seconds, but the throttle doesn't seem to work. I think the throttle baffle/plate key is sheared from the throttle shaft and isn't working. I have since aquired a parts saw and some IPLs, so I know I have the parts to repair her, just need some more ambition and time. Hope this finds you doing well. Take care. Lewis.
