I'm ready to buy a couple new climbing ropes. I've really only used Arbor Plex. Thought i might give some of the new stuff a whirl. Can anyone offer a suggestion along with the advantages of that rope. I was taught to climb doubled-rope and that's really all i know. Don't know if that matters or not. Thanks for the help.

True Blue is an old favorite. Very popular still, it is a good rope for climbing "old school". Generally pretty reasonable.

For the most part, you can't go wrong with any braided climbing rope sold for that purpose.

XTC hasn't let me down yet.

I like the way my martin rides on it, it's easy to coil, seems more flexible in the cold than some others, and lasts pretty good. I like the bright colors too.

Probably just in my mind, but arborplex has always felt just a hair thicker to me than xtc.

I use arbormaster. It is listed as the strongest rope on the market so it wont drop my fat A:censored:. I have climbed on safety blue before. It was also a nice line.

I climbed on true blue the first few years I climbed and it is excellent rope IMO. I switched over to Safety blue later on and still keep plenty of it around. With a tensile strength of 7700 it converts to an excellent light rigging rope when you retire it from climbing. If you are looking at getting into using mechanical ascenders and the like Poison Ivy has become a favorite of mine.

Thanks!

Great information. Thanks very much for the replies. For those of you that are climbing on the smaller diameter line, is there a noticable difference in how it performs and feels? Anything I should be aware of the first time i climb on it, if I decide to go that route? Thanks again.

If you plan on using any mechanical climbing aids ie gri gri lockjack unicender... I use a unicender its great! the smaller diameter ropes respond sooo much better it aint even funny!

When I first started climbing on 11 MM the smaller diameter rope kind of made my hands cramp on longer climbs. I must have gotten used to it tho because I haven't noticed it bothering me in quite awhile. It is very manageable, easy to tie knots with, doesn't stretch too bad at all. It does pick in natural crotches a little so I like to use a friction saver when I climb on it. It does work very well with mechanical ascenders. All in all, I have been very pleased with it.

I like the color of True Blue. Sure that shouldn't be the reason you pick a rope, but that's good enough for me. If I could get a Blue chainsaw to match my blue rope, blue hardhat, and blue p/u truck, I'd be on cloud nine. Although on top of the color, I like the feel of True Blue, it's very soft and if you do a lot of body thrusting the soft feel is nice on the hands. Some people hate that and complain about the hitches not feeling secure or working loose or too tight. Personaly I don't feel that, but maybe I've grown accustomed to it. Before True Blue, I always used either Arborplex or some 16 strand New England rope (don't know which one it was) but it's been awhile so I can't directly compare True Blue from Arborplex. Good luck.
