Need to get a new saddle and want some input on what everyone uses and what your opinions are about them. I currently use an old style 4 D weaver n*t buster with a butt strap. So I would think any of the newer type leg strap saddles would be an improvement.
Tried on the Master 2 at trade show and thought it was OK just very different from what I used so it will take some getting used too. Do not like the floating D so that will narrow down the list I guess. Thanks for any suggestions and opinions.

Saddles are divided into "step through" and belt type. The belt type you attach to your body the same way you put on a regular belt. The step through you must step into and pull the saddle up onto your waist.
Basicly ropes attach to both these saddles by either a sliding "d" or a fixed attachment point.
In my experiance some climbers really are more comfortable with either one type or the other. But rarely both.
the best way would be to try out various saddles at a vendor. It is hard to try out a saddle and get a good enough impression without actually working a few hours in it.
If I was pressed to give a specific answer to your question I would second the previous post and say:

I would have to bite my tongue here tell you what I believe you really want to hear. If I were you the best choice that you could make would be the buckingham versitile with the bosun seat. It is definately a step above what you have now and couldn't see any reason for you to dislike it.

I personally enjoy the butterfly and wouldn't want anything else.

new saddle

I am waiting for a new one too I think so far Im going with a Weaver . There are alot of nice ones out there but i feel much more secure with the seperate leg straps that buckle around your legs over the type I have where one strap buckles around the waist and one big cotton web cradles under your a**and the fixed d's are it simple but effective at least it was for the miner who got it back in 1958.

Husky runner, The Weavers are excellent quality and not very costly. They are also HEAVY and only mediocre regarding comfort. Security is dandy with legstrap Weavers but great with the Ness and Tree Austria and Buckinghams too.

NEW SADLE?

IF Familiarity is important big J IS PROBLY right.......i've climbed in the vesatile and found it to be very versitile;) ...
how ever I love mymodified buter fly. I have another bridge with a fixed center loop but I like the floater better.

This is an old thread I started a while ago and it took me this long to find a sadddle I like. Bought a Blair Ultra lite with 2 floating dee's and used it and liked it. Thank you JPS and Tom D. for bringing it to my attention. Has the floating d's which I did not think I would feel comfortable with but they do not have as much lateral motion as some others so I think I will get used to and like them quickly. Best part of this saddle IMO is the fact that is has a velcro and tongue buckle waistband, so once you put it on is is on to stay. No slipping down or re-adjusting later. Even hang a 044 on it and it stays in place. ;) I tried a Buckingham Master II and just could not have any success getting it adjusted to a comfortable position and keeping it that way. It seems like a well made saddle, and have heard good things about it, just could not make it work for me. The one I have is available for sale if anyone is interested.

I just bought a PETZL mini boss and i love it, it weighs 4.5 lbs and has 8 attachment rings. it has the butt strup with the fiberglass board for support, but i wouldnt go back to any other saddle. ( the only downfall is that is kinda pricey $299)

Dada,

My UL is still in serviceable condition. The nylon mexh that covers the Backjack is frayed but the saddle still functions at 100%. I would call it my #2 or3 saddle behind the BF I or II, my current #1/2.

You'll love it. I'll get some pictures of a modification that I made that will make the UL just a bit more comfy. My desktop will be home from the clinic later today. When I do, I'll get the pics up.

mini bosses

can they be modified to have a sliding d off of the d rings that in petzlsa pics always seem to hang around?

Noticed your shirt there. Too bad they won't let us climb with the modded B1's any more. My b1 bridge is the same thing as on the b2 and it still won't fly.

Butterfly KICKS A$$!

I friend of mine has a Komet Dragonfly. As I understand, it is the same as the Butterfly, but with a bosun seat. He bought it at a competition, so I don't know who sells them.

I dig my Versatile until it wears out. I don't have any problem moving around in it.
