Hi guys, Basically for a school project i'm making a new saw horse. I'm making this as i work on a farm and we cut and sell logs for firewood locally, and i'm posting just to ask some advice at what you would look for if you went to buy one today.

Here's a basic concept to give you an idea:

All c+c welcome!

Cheers guys!

+1 on moving the bar, and what length or how far apart are the supports,ie what size in inches would the wood pieces be?

also how high is that ? how much weight will it hold? can i get it in green?

This example was just to give you a rough idea of what i'm going for, I have some proper sketches of my design with dimensions that i can scan on and show you's later.

Any other points that you would look for if you were going out to buy 1 today?

Cheers for help guys.

+1 on lowering the bar... and you'll need cross bracing for the opposite direction of your existing "X'

good luck and try it to learn its limits.

Are these for useing a hand saw ???

. As I don,t use a sawhorse to buck up firewood unless its with a hand saw I don,t need a saw horse . so I wouldn,t buy one .. . I Peavey with a leg on it is suficent for hand sawing ... However you will need plenty of strong X bracing .and the horizontal members need to be alot lower. Alot depends on the diameter of the logs getting thrown on to it . If it wet hardwood 3 meters long and 1/3rd meter in diameter , and the ground is not even and level , Your design will not last 1 day ... If you use angle iron 6 mm thick with 2" flats , you will be able to make it strong enough ........Also if you can come up with some replaceable plastic or wood chain savers for the horizontal , you will have a winner ... Thats why most guys still make saw horses from wood .. to save the chain .. Give the chain savers a good depth , say 4"
