After reading many threads on splitters and dealing with high shipping costs I finally pulled the trigger and got a splitter. Iron and Oak, 26 ton model. I pulled my hair out trying to justify a Timberwolf but the overall costs and shipping were out of my league. At one point I broke down and on the advice of lots of folks I went to TSC to get the 22ton model. I hooked up the trailer and drove with cash in hand to TSC and of the 3 splitters they had they couldn't get one to either run or run without some serious grinding noises. Of course the manager would special order me one but I passed. The I and O is pretty nice. Split everything I've thrown on her in the last couple of days. B&S 11hp IC starts 1 pull so I'm happy with that. If I can figure out how to post pictures I'll do so.

Those folks at I&O are good to deal with. I bought a maul and some wedges from them. Nice folks. I'm sure you're going to love your splitter!

I have been really happy with my Iron and Oak splitter. #0 ton horizontalonly w/ a 9HP HondaGX engine. Free shipping was a real plus.

Congrats.

Been kicking a new splitter around for a couple of days now. Even considered building one. I'm planning on searching old threads to see if there are any plans floating around here.

CharlieG, The free shipping was a definite plus for me. I was looking upwards of $400+ to ship some of the splitters. To ship residensial they still wanted $125 so I had it shipped to the nearest freight store, 1 hour away. I figured I would drive up and have them load it on my trailer but gave the guy a call at the freight drop and he said he'd charge $65 to get it to the house. The day they delivered the driver said the boss told him NO charge since they were coming this way anyways. From his lift gate to my tractor carry-all was about 5 minutes and he was gone. Total cost, up and running, gas and fluids was $2050.

Excellent price, even a little better than mine. I opted for ATF because it was recommended, I can recycle it at the local tranny shop, and I had a ton of it in my garage! With proper maintenance your good to go! Fluid and filters are easy. I figured at $90 plus tax for a one day rental locally by me, plus a four way trip to p/u and return, this machine was worth the investment. If I had rented it for the times I've "used" it, it has already cost less to buy than to rent. I've also become everyones favorite neighbor, too! A friend in need, is a friend indeed.

Interesting to see there still putting the name on it as they were bought out by brave. Doesnt look like they gave you a log dislodger w it though. Heres the # 1-800-817-1005. Be carefull if one gets jamed that you dont raise it back up to high or it will tear out the pto valve. Should be around $ 85.00 bucks delivered .

Let us know what the current price is on the 5 gallon buckets of tractor hydro fluid. John Deer Fergie type. You can use ATF but I wouldnt . As I recall it was just shy of $ 100 inc. the tax for 10 gal 8 years ago.

OilHead, paid ~$40 per 5 gal bucket at TSC. I had just received a 10% off coupon so I guess I saved a few bucks on that one. They're still using the Iron and Oak name but there is some Brave badging on a couple of parts of the splitter.

CharlieG, I received a 5% discount from Toolfetch because it was father's day! I'm a father so I bought myself a splitter and took advantage of the sale. Interesting the B&S I/C engine was only $10 more than the standard Briggs so I go that one. Would liked to have gotten the Honda but need a NEW Sthih 460 or 660 now that I can split the bigger stuff. I don't use the verticle too often but tried it the other day on some big stuff that I would have had to wrestle up to split and it was a lot easier. I'm still more comfortable with the horizontal splitting.

I don't like the V splitting, just too uncomfortable. The Honda runs sweet, and the 372 I got from Spike60, an AS sponsor, runs even sweeter. Around here I have access to pretty much all the lines, but I chose the 372 as my main firewood saw. Looking for another saw in the 50cc range-the two saw plan-probably a 346xp or a 5100. The Husky runs considerably less $$$$ around here, though.

Congrats on the new splitter.

Two weeks ago, I also got an Iron and Oak 22 ton log splitter (I got the 5 Hp Honda). I'm very pleased with it, then again I've never used a log splitter before.

Your gonna love a splitter. I bought mine quite a few years ago from Tractor Supply. It is a 22 ton with a 6 hp B&S engine. It looks quite a bit like yours.

Well, I bought a splitter today.

Saw the ad in the paper this morning, made the call, met the fellow, picked up the unit, and home before 11:30 am. Not really the one I was planning to get/build, but I believe he treated me fairly.

One owner/never used Troy Built 27 ton with a 5.5 Honda GCV engine on it. Started on the 2nd pull cold. The story goes... he bought it a year ago and never got to use it. Had to move into an apartment after personal/marital circumstances changed. The paint looks brand new all over.

It is a Horizontal/Vertical unit: Hopefully I can recoup some of the $$ spent if it doesn't work out.
