I've been checking out 25" bars (3/8 - .050) and noticed that Stihl now offers a 3003 000 4030. Aside from having a 10 tooth sprocket nose what's the difference between it and the 3003 000 9630 (13 tooth sprocket nose)? Also, what difference does 10 or 13 teeth in the nose make?

I guess the 9630 is an ES, what else?:help:

The -4030 is a GREEN coded bar -certified for low kickback applications - 10 teeth.

The -8830 is a yellow coded bar, and is the "normal" size nose - 11 teeth.

The -9630 is a yellow coded bar, and has an "Extra Wide" spocket designed for boring applications - 13 teeth

All above are ES

The smaller the radius of the nose the less chance of kick back

And oftentime makes some of your loops too long, too. Which, I guess, is a good way to reduce kickback...if you can't run the saw without spending time spinning new loops, there's just that much less time that you're out there putting yourself at risk of kickback with a working saw.

So did they make the green labeled bar 1" longer to make up for the chain sag caused by the smaller sprocket and narrower nose so the bar would still accept the standard 84 dl chain? I have the yellow label bar...probably the 11 tooth and it really 24" even though it says 25.

Okay...I just wondered if there was a reason...at least with mine the actual called length would be 24".... also found out I have the large nose 13 tooth bar. It seems like a smaller sprocket would decrease performance unlerss you had a saw that was way too small for the bar.
