Stihl dealer called, muffler and tach arrived, but, not the tach I ordered. THis one was substituted by the warehouse?, it is $20 cheaper, and will handle the new ignition style that is on the new breed of saws. Apparently there were two springs/weights for timing, now there are four, and the old tachs will give inaccurate readings, so this substitution will do old ignitions, new ignitions and 4-stroke engines. Wireless reading within 4" of the sparkplug wire, or use included wires and alligator clip.

Will be picking it up tomorrow, then swap muff covers, and adjust the screws, the try out wood is some 48"silver maple that I quartered and still needs more reducing to fit the splitter, so rip cuts and a few cross cuts.

We'll see what happens.

The tach model is an EDT-7. It reads fairly quickly, my saw was idling at 3000, and as it revved up to full throttle the readings increased to match. Saw was running at 15,800 in the vise, now it's down to a kinder 14,100 with the new muffler cover. The readings were taken just holding the tach close to the shroud were the plug wire was beneath, good response, not .5 sec, but plenty quick, maybe 3-5 seconds at WOT.

$99, just getting the 460 back where it belongs was worth buying a tach.

Thanks for the update. Now i will have to see what the difference is between the Det-302,Edt-5, Edt-8 and the one you just got.
The .5 sec is the refresh rate on most good tachs. I bet yours is .5 too.
