:deadhorse: Was wondering if anyone would dare to look in the crystal ball and predict where ebay and saw sales will be in say 2 plus years? Seems we are overpopulated with saws.:help: I have seen this with antique engines and tractors the value didn't go down but they seem to get scarcer.
2. How do you stop these low feedback bidders from bidding as there seem to be a lot of problems (deadbeats) say with less than 10 feedback? :yoyo:

It's your auction, your rules. I've seen plenty of auctions where it's stated, "Bidders with less than 10 feedback, or less than 95% positive feedback need to contact me before bidding." Or something to that effect.

Based on who is reading this thread now, I'll plunge in and predict that as long as they keep building new houses with fireplaces and as long as we keep having tornados and hurricanes, there will be demands for chainsaws by the 'do it your selfer's', FEMA, etc. So the 'demand' is assured. And if the condition of the saws used by these newbies continues to be as it has been, then the life expectancy of what they buy will be short. So using this impeccable logic, there will never be an oversupply, just bubbles in the cycle, which means that prices for a good, nice looking saw, will remain good for the indefinate future. :biggrinbounce2: And you heard it here first ;) ;)

With the price of natural gas and fuel oil only moving upward I see more people wanting saws as they jump into the cut-your-own-wood business.

With the way storms are/have been, I think Ebay will be seeing loads of cheap, neglected, not-sharpened chains, rarely-used saws for sale.

Why would you want to stop people from buying stuff?!? Everyone has to start somewhere. What about the morons with more than 10 feedbacks?? Deadbeat bidders - relist. Non-paying bidders - relist. The system is easy: don't send an item unless you have payment in hand, and payment has cleared. Done.

People want to over-complicate things so much! Ebay is full of morons. ...just like the real world. And there are plenty of ways of dealing with both.

ok guys i see what your saying but this winter most of the problems was with low feed back bidders not the 50-500 ones who had one negative. except one jerk who had a low rating under 2 different names. (85%) wished you could cancel there bids but its hard in the las 1-2 min to do so.:yoyo: :buttkick:

yes fhcw and i will probably go to that but don't see how you can enforce it as most bidding happens in the last 1-2 min hope all is well in the old guard:biggrinbounce2:

Leave bad feedback, then relist.

People drum up feedback all the time. Sure doesn't mean they're good people. Having no feedback doesn't mean they're crook, either. Take each auction seperately.

If they don't pay at all, you can relist and not lose anything.

If they send payment, make sure that payment clears ok, THEN send the item.

Where is the flaw in this system?

Look in the mirror you are saying "its ok to deadbeat they can just relist the item" What good is that system??:angry2:

I didn't get that's what he was saying, havvey. He's not condoning deadbeating--he's just saying how you can avoid losing money from it, and he's right.

Did you start with less then 10..Not all new bidders are bad..Remember where you were when you started...I had trouble with guy that had 211 with 100% ..Bid it up then didn't want the item.
I agree. I won't bid on someone's auction who entirely excludes low feedback bidders. This doesn't sit well with me. Now, if they want to have contact before allowing a bid, that's fine. But to summarily exclude someone because of low feedback is not a sign of someone I want to deal with.

Feedback is a minor impedance to a scammer anyway. All they have to do is register under fake names and make fake auctions and leave themselves positive feedback.

Sorry space was going to change it ..but you already quoted it...lol

Ebay

i AM JUST RELATING THE PROBLEMS WE HAD THIS WINTER UNFORTUNATLY IT WAS LOW FEEDBACK'S MOST OF THEM BECAME (NO LONGER REGISTERED).
i WOULD LIKE TO SEE EBAY STRENGTHEN ITS POLICY AND PENALIZE THESE PEOPLE. i SEE SOME PEOPLE SAY THEY REFER DEADBEATS TO COLLECTIONS CAN'T IMAGINE THAT IS FEASABLE IN THIS DAY & AGE. CARS SEEM TO BE THE WORST THEY GET LISTED ABOUT 3 TIMES.:yoyo: :buttkick:

Why the yelling havvey? You asked a question, and you're getting answers. I'm getting a suspicion at why you've had problems with deadbeats.

I had a guy bid on item, he won and had problem with paypal ..He never bought anything before and though I would chastize him..He called me and we worked it out ..No problem ..

same thing here. fairly expensive item. lady was new to this country, had no luck getting her paypal account set up.

calls and says she'd would be glad to send another form of payment, thought I'd be mad as heck.

i really don't care. money is money.

as far as bidders, i only restrict international bidders when it's an item i care not to ship over-seas. i usually allow them to bid after they contact me and i'm comfortable they're on the up & up and willing to absorb the costs.

really, everyone has to start or start over somewhere..........

Maybe they should indicate the total value of purchases too.

I've bought 11 things of ebay, 100% positive feedback, average value ~$500.

100% payment "on the hammer" on 11 big items is better than someone who has 11x $2 transactions under their belt.

(I've even overpaid on an item where there was only a buy-it-now price, and the price wasn't nearly what the item was worth. You could call be an idiot for doing that, but I got the item for half what it was worth to me rather than 2% of what it was worth. I sleep better not screwing people over.)

I too don't ship overseas (Canada some) it seemed a lot of paperwork, high costs and long wait, no tracking available:yoyo:

As far as were talking about E-bay..I might as well put my info in. I made 2 different purchases from Baileys 1st purchase for Stihl parts then 1-2 weeks later purchased some husky parts. He received payment on the husky parts in no time, I kept communicating with Baileys about the stihl parts purchase. He never received payment.. checked the bank info about the money order and was not cashed. Informed Bailey's of this.. he said no problem. Well... who's fault is it that he didn't receive the 1st payment? no ones. My fault for sending the mail in on the bad day of the week? nope. But i i feel guilty for him not having gotten paid for the parts .. so i sent in another payment.. this time priority mail (just today). I just cant have the guilt of not paying for something that should of been paid for. hey i lose money .. but if thats what it takes, then so be it.. Curt if you don't get the payment by middle of next week.. let me know and ill be glad to send ya some more

My OPINION.. its all in who you decide to do business with
