For me this is as new as it gets. This one was used by a local land clearer. Definitely run hard but not abused. The guy I bought it from said it was racing and would not idle. I bought it without hearing run. Didn’t even pop the muffler off, but the racing made me think air leak or lean mix which can lead to failure. Took it home, a couple pulls showed compression is not a factor this is a saw that needs a decomp to keep from braking recoil parts. Removed the muffler, piston is perfect. Still very visible machine marks. That’s where I stopped. Did some research and sounds like some of these mtronic saws can have gremlins. I know nothing about these saws. Electronic carb, ignition problem? No idea. Very nice saw though

The first Stihl MS661 M-tronic I ever worked on was victimized by a bad ignition module that caused it to bog down in the cut. Dealers had to replace them left and right. Until that coil was replaced, nothing meant anything. The saw was a factory recall, never announced to owners.

On the other hand, the idle control on a Stihl M-tronic is a will-o-the-wisp (impossible to repair or adjust), designed to frustrate the best of mechanics.

Sounds great. I’m a dinosaur. 90% of the time the technology that is supposed to make life easier fails for me. I’m sure these systems work fine most of the time. But my 044, Dolmar 111i, and Poulan 3450 (to name a few) cut wood just fine and a slotted screwdriver and t27 can fix most any problems. They call this progress? I’ll get the parts cause I’m not into the saw for much $$. But I’ll still piss and Moan about it.

The version 3 m-tronic is about as good as it gets, pretty reliable in my experience.

That kit includes a V3 coil combined with the white solenoid and orange fuel filter. You'll be happy with it.

That kit will work on this saw? I haven’t checked to see how old it is. I could call Derek, he seems like a good dude I’m sure he’d give me the history
