New to me Stihl 045AV in superb condition

Spotted this Stihl 045 AV on marketplace for £20 locally and thought it was a scam. Turned out it wasn't a scam and I was the first to turn up and buy it.

Hadn't ran in over 10 years according to seller. When I got it home I put a little oil in the cylinder before turning it over gently and checking for spark. Strong spark. With plug back in the compression is very strong. Saw has original bar and Stihl stamped chain. Seems to be very low hour saw.



I added fresh fuel and was amazed that on the first pull it fired up and ran. It was late so I only ran it for a few seconds and the next day it would not start again unless I sprayed brake cleaner into the intake. Suggesting a fuel issue.

I would like to check does anyone have a diagram or photos of the fuel hose from the tank to the carburettor please? I suspect there is a split pipe somewhere. I have ordered a new intake boot and impulse hose. But I am unsure of where the fuel hose connects to the carb as I can only see the impulse hose connection. So the fuel line may connect at the intake pipe instead?

From searching photos on the interwebs I believe I understand this a bit better now.

There is of course a rubber hose inside the fuel tank. This connects to a metal barb pipe inside the tank.

From there, there is a tract inside the casting which leads to a drilling at the intake port. Therefore there are no further fuel hoses. The intake boot provides the seal between the drilling and the carb body.






Therefore I will rebuild the carb with a kit, replace the intake boot and impulse line. And finally replace the hose inside the fuel tank and fingers crossed that will give it a healthy fuel system to fire up on.
