hello, im new to commercial cutting but me and a couple friends are cutting about 500 acres of juniper. we are trying to figure out if it will be cheaper to buy a roll of chain and the break and spinner or if we should just have them made. other question is what is the best chain to use? we have also been thinking about buying a bench grinder, what are some of the better grinders to look into buying?

If you're going to be in clean 100% Juniper, consider the full chisel chain. If not, then go with Semi-Chisel. If you want to take the time setting up your own chain build, repair tables, and do the work, go for it. You'll save a little after the second or third spool of chain.

p.s. OREGON makes good grinders. Northern Tool sells a good consumer copy of the OREGON. I don't know how it would hold up under commercial situations.

I know when stihl has there chain sale, its cheaper to buy the premade loops. I got a breaker and spinner, but often times it only gets used to repair broken chains. I like running full chisel for everything.

Stihl RS (rapid super) is hard to beat for chisel chain.
If your going to be cutting a lot of trees off at the ground I would keep a saw with semi chisel set aside just for that, that way when you do strike earth it's not going to cost you time sharpening before the next tree.

Stihl seems to last about twice as long for me than oregon chisel chain and I think it cuts better out of the box despite people saying it isn't as sharp. It seems like the angles are more aggressive to me.
