This was my first saw build. Assembled from several Ebay parts saws and a lot of reading both here and the riff raff lounge. I grabbed an ultrasonic and kept reading. It blew 180psi and has been running for about three years in varied usage. It started racing at a job last fall and my climber shut it down immediately.
I finally gave it the pressure vac test and figured out I had used a MS440 oil seal set instead of MS460 because somebody had told me they were the same just like the crankcase bearings. I put it back together with the right seals and it seemed to run fine but I was worried there might be top end damage from the lean.
A week or so ago a nice ported 046D jug got offered up in the trading post by Miller Mod Saws and after talking to him a bit I decide to grab it up. It arrived quick and clean and he even sent a follow up e-mail to check on it.
So I finally got around to installing it this morning. I had a new OEM piston standing by in case I needed it, but the old one looked good and the cylinder coming off was a D as well so that was a nice surprise. I didn't know what a D cylinder was when I built it the first time.
The exhaust was already port matched perfectly - bonus!!
The piston looked great, I am not sure about all the carbon on top, but the walls look great as does the jug.
I wasn't sure if it would need a base gasket so I dropped the jug on and was surprised that the bolt holes didn't line up, WTF?
Oh, I am so ashamed....
After that it was smooth sailing and I am pretty happy with this jug
ran it for about 5 mins with a 28" in some 18" cured oak, STOUT!!!!!!
I tuned it a little rich and it still seemed super pig rich, but I didn't have time to fine tune and I want a second pair of good ears around so I don't smoke my favorite saw.
