So yesterday, heading back in, I passed a tree service that I had never seen before. No name, they had this really old, total POS bucket truck, boom looked like it had been welded on several times. A old, bigger flat bed, front grill missing. Back is half filled with scrap metal and house garbage. The guy running the saw was at least 400lbs, then he had a army of middle aged dirt balls out there, all watching him, tons of brush everywhere and they are all standing around! Didn't see a chipper or anything else, only 1 saw, that I seen anyways. It was nice yesterday so they had just shirts on, all of them skinny as a rail (can we say meth!) They were friendly, they waved as we passed! I wonder if it was "After the Storm Tree Service". A new one. that I seen a home made flyer for?
Wonderful................................

sometimes, ya' gotta spend yer money.

sounds like the crack heads that showed up to trim my trees several years ago. what a hack job..I put a stop to 'em when i got home from work..they were okay with me begging them off the job. i think they realized they were in over their heads. Two old monster hard maples. Gave 'em like a 120 bucks as they had butchered the hell out of the tree they had started. It was supposed to be complete removal of both trees. I was okay in that i knew that tree wasn't gonna land on my house, they had earned that 120 bucks. I called in a real pro team and the job was finished correctly..

Your posting in a tree care forum, and you had to call in a pro team crew to cut down your tree?

Good point, but he did only join a few months ago. Why he posting on the commercial climbers thread is questionable, though he was on topic.

new "tree outfits"

An old friend of my oldest son called me out of the blue yesterday looking for advice on starting his own tree business. (he has worked for some tree guy in the Boston area) I was astonished, the last I knew he was in trouble with the law and was the unmarried father of a child at the age of 20. He knows my story, how I started off doing tree work out of a mini van, removing the brush when I could "borrow" a truck and chipper from big yellow. He said he wants to follow my example and make it on his own. God bless him. I am flattered, but I went out on my own after working for a big tree company for years. Bartlett sent me to school and taught me a great deal about customer relations, safety, and of course tree work. I admire his ambition to support his family and I answered all his questions about saws and gear that he asked about. But there is so much more! I told him to call me anytime and I will help him all I can. I feel like I am enabling a pipe dream. What would you do?

Make him realize it takes years to get it right, to get a good name and customer list and it takes intelligence to walk away from something he has no idea how to handle. You also need to make him believe that a person can be killed doing this type of work and he can find himself deeply involved with the law(sued) if he screws up. He's going to be better off working for someone else like you did before going on your own. That's probably something he doesn't realize.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will allow someone to remove large trees from around their home without even checking their credentials... I guess price is king til it comes up and bites you in the ass.

We didn't see ya!

Next time stop and say high.

Thought that was u, whaz up wit dat guy with no pants on under his chaps?
Drove back by there again, ROFLMMFAO, These guys are champs. They have a log that has at least 20-30 cuts down it, like they where trying to disk it out, but stopped for some reason, notches cut into the top side of the log? Still piles of brush everywhere. When we went buy, they waved again. Ho was out there, he waived too as he rubber necked us, as we went around the corner! Waiting on a phone call, lol.

"Sorry sir, we do not come in after anybody else, unless they are in danger, should have hired a pro in the first place" Will be the response

Sorry for the tresspass..

Ummm,,,,Yes. I'm Just a home owner who cuts firewood. I read thru most all Forums and make a comment from time to time when I think it might HELP OTHERS. And the wealth of knowledge.. Including TREE CARE FORUMS.

Didnt know i was Trespassing with my post...sorry to tread into "sacred grounds",,,ya' condescending-up tight prick.

Not Trolling or wanting to :potstir: But you come off a little heavy.

My post RE-ENFORCES the concept of "Spend your money and hire REAL PROFESSIONALS". Guys like some of you and not "hacks",,it looks like "TreeMD" got my point,,thanks, Doc.

Hoping other home owners who might read it would learn from my mistake. Peace man.

"You thought you had a pro...I see, well it's a liability issue for me ya understand." "Right...right......I am sorry, yeah if they don't have insurance to do tree work they are your liability as we speak." "You might have that 400 lb man take a break, you don't want him to go down on you, he's looking a little pasty."
