Carve em in stone on this thread.

I am going to make contact with every call immediately even if buried in work. I would be offended if the lawn or heating guy did not call me right back and at least tell me he was covered up.

I am going to give up the F bomb. Makes me feel stupid when I give in to it.

I will be back with more later and quote this post and add to it.

Keep better records on maintenance I do and be more attentive to equipment I got so damn much of it.

I'm giving up beer.

I know it's sad to me too but i'm allergic to gluten and everytime i even have one beer I get stuffed up. Time to start taking care of the body.

Gluten! What is that? I keep seeing everywhere gluten free this and gluten free that. I keep wondering if its something I should avoid. they got a whole aisle in the store says " GLUTEN FREE ", I keep asking everybody in the aisle what it is but they just look at me wierd and shuffle off.

My wife is on a gluten free diet. Gluten is primarily associated with wheat. It is the protein in it as I understand it. If someone says they have 'celiac's disease' they're talking about a severe reaction to gluten. Some people, like my wife, don't have celiac's but have a serious intolerance or allergy to gluten.

Kinda crazy how my wife, her father, and 3 of her 5 sisters all got diagnosed with either celiac's or gluten intolerance this past year. But, after getting off of gluten, they're now free of stomach or foot pain or sinus problems or whatever else was ailing them for years but they couldn't figure out what it was. My wife swears that, if she now ingests even a little bit of wheat crumbs or flour, she feels absolutely horrible. Wierd stuff.

As for beer, they do make sorghum beer. She hasn't tried it though. She just drinks hard cider or wine now. It definitely limits eating out. Also makes the holidays tricky. My mom (who unadmittedly thinks it's all in my wife' head) makes all kinds of wheat-laden breads and other foods over Christmas and then says to my wife, "oh, I guess we'll have to make you something else, won't we?" or "Gee, we don't have those kind of alergy problems in OUR side of the family." It's as if she's waiting for my wife to cave in and just eat the wheat and quit being 'fussy'. Gotta love clueless moms...

Oh yeah - my resolution(s):

1) to continue to lose some weight. At 190 now (down from 205 to 183 then back up thanks to Christmas and a gorge-fest). Would like to give myself a 40th B-day present in March by hitting 170 lbs.

2) Spend more QUALITY time with the kids. Not just time but, quality time doing stuff they'll remember when they're 39.

I vow to climb faster. This summer some people stopped on the sidewalk to watch me. When I moved they all jumped. I guess they thought I was a mime pretending to climb a tree.

Hey Nc, maybe you won't have to give up beer. I am sure they make gluten free beer.

yeah i've researched a little and found that some microbreweries and brewing companies are experimenting with gluten free beers made from sorghum, millet, rice, and buckwheat. it all sounds great but i'm sort of a beer connoisseur when it come down to it and it has to be good. I wonder if anyone has tasted beers like this and if they are good?

haha I had the same thought, been going hard in the gym already trying to prevent from getting too out of shape until work picks up again. I actually plan on being in better climbing shape come spring then I ended the year at.

A small micro brewer call Anheuser Bush offers “Redbridge” a sorghum based brew that is gluten free. If you are used to micro brews, it is actually a very good brew and most places that have Bud products stock it or can get it for you. Another option is hard cider. Woodchuck offers many different hard ciders that are gluten free. Celiac disease is bear to live with but it is becoming much more recognized and getting good tasting food is becoming much easier. Good Luck with the new diet.

If you are on a completely gluten-free diet and if you do your own baking/cooking, I'll suggest buying your own grain mill. We paid a little over $200 for ours (spendy, I know) and now buy rice in big 25lb bags which we mill into flour. My wife uses it in place of wheat flour. WAY WAY cheaper than buying milled rice, tapioca, sorghum etc flours in the store. My wife is a stay at home mom so she's always baking and cooking from scratch. A loaf of bread made from rice flour costs a fraction of a loaf bought in the gluten-free isle at thes store.

Sorry about turning this into a gluten-free thread. Enough about gluten from me. NCTREE, PM me if you want any more info or advice. I can ask the wife...

OK - one last post on gluten free... :) We tried the Woodchuck cider this weekend - I kinda liked it. Wife got mad because I was drinking it all. Godfather's pizza has also come out with a gluten free pizza. I had to laugh over christmas when my mom orders godfather's pizza (unbenownst to the rest of us). My wife gets all excited thinking - 'yah, mom's finally thinking of me and ordering a gluten free pizza'. Nope. Regular kind. Wife made her own meal while the rest of us ate pizza. :) Poor 'ole girl - gets no sympathy from my family whatsoever!

Thanks for the great info arborpro, i'm a newbie when it comes to this stuff haven't even finished the food that I bought in the store that has gluten in it. I'm intolerant but not completly allergic at least not yet. I can't stand wasting food so i'm gonna suffer through my food then start on the gluten free food. I'm single so I think the baking thing is a lost cause for now at least. Once I get an old lady I will consider the mill cause i'm all about saving money and homemade is always better than store bought. I really appreciate it though and yer gonna get some well deserved rep for this one, thanks.

We're all migrating to gluten-free (me and the three girls) so that cooking is easier for her; yet, she still makes us our favorite meals with gluten in them just because she knows we appreciate it. How many gals now days will cook three meals a day from scratch let alone cook foods that she can't eat herself just to make her family happy? She's a keeper I tell ya.

If I lived in SD i'd be over at your house every night for dinner:)

I'm so close to perfect I can't think of anything I need to improve on.....

I do want to find out what I am allergic to that makes my belly swell up during the holidays though...
