I am a woodturner that until now has only used an electric chainsaw. My father just gave me his Echo 3450 that he no longer needs.
He says that he had constantly had problems starting it and just got it back from his mechanic when he gave it to me. When trying to start the saw according to the direction in will continually stall when idleing. The only way it would stay running is if the choke is partially out.

Is this a simple a carb adjustment or something I should take it to an authorized service center?

The saw I think is underpowered for what I use a saw for so I do not want to invest to much in it. I am usually bucking 12 to 18 inch Mesquites that have already been down, cutting out the pith and rounding them into bowl blanks.

Chainsaw?????

Hi Vick,
Welcome to the site, firstly me unless it's just a spark plug change I always put it the shop, but my mech is friendly helpful and easy on my pocket..and of course he's good,to me it's does sound like a carb problem...by the way I think this should have been posted in the chainsaw section, enjoy your stay and all the best, good luck with your saw.

Ya that would be a carb problem! Easy fix all you do is get a flathead screwdriver small enough to fit in the holes where the carb adjustments screws are and go in the LO hole and turn in about an 1/8 or 1/4 turn to the right. Wait a minutes or so for the saw to catch up to what youve done. And if its not enough keep adjusting until it feels right. You cant really screw carbs up to much if so take the saw to youre local dealer and they'll do it.. And it shouldnt cost much if any at all!

Thanks guys I kind of thought that.

Unfortunately I know nothing about engines so I appreciate the help.

If you're not comfortable with engines and carbs then those guys will guide you right, or send the saw to the shop. Sounds like your idle is set too low.
