Going to the local shop tomorrow to check out some saws, keep the opinions coming.

I'm bias for the Stihl. Go with the 361, I wish that would have been my first saw.

Although, I did fondle the 362 a couple of days back in the dealership, the one I looked at with a 20in bar was $629.99, to give you a point of reference. Appeared to have greated craftsmanship as with all Stihl products.

Had to order it, should get it in about a week or so, will post pics as soon as I can.

Well I am gonna open the opinions back up, doesn't look like the deal I had is gonna work out. No names metioned but a fellow member WILL NOT GET BACK TO ME on a deal that I thought was a done deal. Are there any other dealers out there that can hook me up on a deal for any of the saws metioned on the first page post? Let me know, Thanks guys.
Joe

Hey guys, got another opinion question for you, I have recently bought a house with a fireplace (finally), anyway I am getting into cutting my own wood, along with wood for friends. I am looking into buying a new chainsaw, I am obviously looking for the most bang for the buck, I have been doing my research and am iterested in what some experienced people have to say, I have narrowed it down to 5 saws, all have been recommended to me. Here is what I'm looking at.
1. Husky 359 -3.9hp, 12.1lbs, 59cc
2. Husky 346XP -3.7hp, 11lbs, 50.1cc
3. Stihl MS280 -3.6hp, 11.7lbs, 54.7cc
4. Stihl MS361 -4.4hp, 12.3lbs, 59cc
5. Dolmar 5100S -3.9hp, 11.2lbs, 50.4cc

Well there they are, interested in hearing what everybody has to say about them, comparissons, etc...
Like I said looking for most bang for the buck, cost is not the main factor here but if one of them happens to be cheaper/more expensive and is the best saw, I will buy it. Looking to use an 18inch bar.
Thanks, Joe

Get the Dolmar. The 5100 is an awesome although recently it has been replaced by the 5105. Same saw with a different cat style muffler.

Before the CAD Hits

Another vote for the 359, it is very solid saw definitely worth consideration. I run one and it's my go to saw because its the biggest I have. With that thought in mind, some of the best advice I've found on AS, that I would reiterate, is to buy the biggest saw you can afford, in the long run it is more efficient to do such. I found that I yearn to have a 70cc saw - (CAD has set in) but this years winter in KS has my better half burning much more wood than anticipated. So there is a lot more wood to cut and season for future winters. Also check out the firewood and heating forum to get ideas on how to more heat from your fireplace.

To me it would depend on how much you are going to cut and how often you intend to use it. If you don't intend to cut but just a little for your fireplace or wood stove I wouldn't sink a big bunch of money in a saw. I know my opinion wouldn't be popular with most but for occasional fireplace wood cutting I'd go with something like a Poulan 25 with a 14" bar. Very dependable and easy to work on, unfortunately old and hard to come by. They can be had on ebay for around $20 to $40. I'll probably hear from everybody about this post.

Well guys, looks like the deal is back on for the Dolmar 5100 so, we'll see what happens, I guess I'll let you guys know, haha.
Later, Joe
