Hey everybody, great to be a member of the board. Anything with an engine lights my fire, especially vintage units. Old technology facinates me, as I'm sure it does many of you all.

Anyway, I've got a problem that I'm sure someone here can help me with. I'm restoring my family's Titan model 30 that was purchased new by my wifes great uncle. I've got the pristine owners manual with a letter from the company thanking for the purchase dated 1957.

I'm disassembling the saw to blast and repaint everything. I've disassembled the tillotson carb and found a damaged diaphragm. The only id numbers I've found are H5A on the carb body. Web searches have led me nowhere. Can someone give me some history on this model saw? Any leads on some parts for this carb?

Thanks in advance for all help given, hopefully I can help someone in return.

Dave

As far as rebuild kits go for an H series carb, you MIGHT, and I say MIGHT be able to find one, but you'll have to know some guys that have had parts and been in business for MANY years to get em. or if all else fails, Lewis Brander, who is here on this site, made a set of gaskets and diaphragms for his Disston DO101, you could look at his thread on that, and perhaps make your own if you have to.

Remember, jsut cause its old, dont mean it cant be brought back to life.

Wow!, that is old. Try talking to Bob Walker in Nanaimo BC. (250) 753-8309 or Terry Peterson (250) 287-9231. Both of these fellows were around then and are very knowledgable. Cheers.

FBO, welcome aboard! In addition to Al and Lewis, Bill G. knows his way around old saws. Mike Acres, the man behind acresinternet/chain saw collectors corner, is also a member here. Simon, thanks for posting the contacts.

Good luck, & post some photos if you're able.

As it seems, believe it or not,I was called attention to this thread, from another site, through a link to this site.[pay attention Mr J]
I am only speculating about the model H Tilley,as I've never seen one apart. However,I would not be a bit surprised if the diaphragms etc are not somewhat interchangeable with the model HR or maybe Hd[used on Harley Sportsters, big carb]
Mfg supply co,of Wisc[in Mike Maas's back yard] lists a lot of Tillotson parts, but some research would have to done for interchangeability.
If you go to Tillotsons web site, they have a spread sheet that lists about a zillion parts.I also have the latest catalog from Mfg and will do a little reading to see what I can find.I've also got a Tilley book, that I will study.
If I find anything,I'll get back with it.

Al, I was kinda wondering if a different model tilly diaphragm would work. I found one on ebay but it appeared completely different after comparing the two. Thanks for taking the time for my cause. By the way, what other site mentioned the topic????

Here's some pics of the tilly disassembled. There's another thread here with pics of the saw. The razor blade gives an idea of size.....

Thanks again guys

This is a picture of a Tilley HL diaphragm on the left,HR on the right. They are both 2 1/4" accross, the Hl has a few more holes in it.Sorry, those on dial up,I left the file size large in an attempt to show some clarity.
For what it's worth,I'm not impressed in the least my HP camera.I can't seem to get the hang of it in spite off all the good tips I've gotten from people. The dang thing is driving me nuts, and it cost over $500,good grief.:bang: So much for my little rant.
I don't know if these dimensions help or not .I have the McCulloch micros that may shed more light on this mystery.I'll check them,I don't know if Mc ever used this carb or not.

HD's and HR's were used on a lot of sleds in the 60's and 70's. Last one I had was a 368cc Sachs (1 cyl!) that originally came on a 1969 Rupp. THis engine (as a 340 usually) came on scorpions, skiroules, moto-skis, and lots of others. Lots of other engines, both singles and twins, used these carbs.

Still got the 368 Sachs, minus carb. Wire rope in the recoil. Anyone ever make a saw out of one of these? They're huge!
