wood splitter valve

The rod on the hydraulic cylinder will return when the lever is pushed back into the detent. However the rod and wedge will slowly start the stroke over again and start pushing towards the new piece of wood. wondering if there is a weak spring in the valve. Seems to do it more when it is cold. TIA.
