Post the serial number and the product number code and I'll let you know the proper owners manual for your saw. Without seeing a picture of the muffler its hard to say if its going to be an issue. As the saw is new to you and most likely you know little of its use history, it would be wise to do a compression test, pull the muffler and inspect the piston and cylinder for any scoring and perform a vaccum and pressure test to be sure all is well with you "new" saw.

This saw came from an arborist member who received this saw in a trade. He used/ran it a few times and checked the compression as well and looked it over. I already order a new muffler but I wanted to use it next weekend but wanted to know if I should wait for the new one before I run it or if it would be alright to use it once.

The full serial number is 4HVXS-0525EA....This tag is about to fall off as well.

the serial number and product number code are located on the clutch side underneath the handle (fitted to the crankcase), on a black tag thats rivited on!

I'd go ahead and grab a new muffler so long as the rest of the saw is fine.

The 353 is a great little saw and complements a 2 saw program perfectly, although it seems as this area has been logged continuesly for the past 200+ years, fits the need for 90% of my bush work. Don't fall into the big bar hype, suit your bar to the wood you are cutting, running a 15" bar still gets me into the almost 34" tree diameter if need be, but i have another saw for the bigger stuff. I have found that a 16" bar and .325 work wonder with this saw.
