A little spic n span diluted and a hose would do wonders for that saw.

Makes you wonder how it could get that dirty on the outside and be that great inside.:dizzy:

That is a beauty to me.
I see a diamond in the rough!

It don't matter, this saw is being parted out. Too much little stuff to me to do it up right. Half the antivibe mounts are shot, handles bent and stripped, clutch cover is non repariable, gas tank leaks, throttle wires messed up. It needs a parts saw to fix it up!

The Piston and cyl are probably going on my other 3400 and some other parts are going to make a 3.7 Craftsman whole again.

Don't know about that "diamond in the rough", Mike. You might need to get your eyes checked. LOL

Do the 3700's and 4000's vibe much??? I ran my 5200 the other day, and the vibes bothered my hands. My hands were humming after, maybe I'm just a Sally!!!

I used my 3.7 along side my dolmar 540, and as far as vibes go, i couldnt really tell the difference. The 3.7 is heavier, but feels better using it, dont know why, better leverage maybe. The saw has alot of torque and doesnt bog no matter how hard you lean on it. I dont know, of all the saws ive used, i like the feel of my 3.7 the most....

My 3400 is not too bad on the vibes. Don't feel anymore than my stihls really. Only thing is it's too heavy for the power it has. My 036 is lighter and a LOT more powerful.

Ya, this is why I don't really run the 5200, I have other saws that will spank it for power to weight. It is a fun saw though, and sounds awesome.

3700

just picked up this saw, some of you guys saw it on flebay a few weeks ago. bought it as a parts saw. Now not so sure. P&C look good, cant check the comp since it puked out the recoil spring. seems pretty good, i just hate doing recoil springs!!!!!!<a href="http://s729.photobucket.com/albums/ww294/joe25da/?action=view&current=saw006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww294/joe25da/saw006.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Looks like my 3400

"Fugly"

Apparently you haven't seen the "ugly bastard" in action!

Or my collection of 3400 parts.

On the contrary, I thought the "ugly bastard" had a bit of character. Now this is ugly!

Feel free to use this one on the cover page of the Poulan Lover's Group. :)

I know. Just another "diamond in the rough".

Well the 3700 arrived and its in very rough shape as I expected. But I was also surprised that I showed 155-160 lbs on my compression tester!

The piston and cyl are in great shape and I already have it apart. It is a thin ring saw. I forgot what a pain them press fit wrist pins are to remove, as I have not done one in 25 years maybe. I made up a homemade tool for pressing the pin out and it worked slick.

Here is the picture of the exhaust port and piston.

Poor shape otherwise aint it! It has had a bow on it, but thats not surprising since it came from Louisiana. (sp?)

Mark, love to see apicture of your wrist pin tool! I welded a pin and socket to a C clamp however am always interested in other possibilities.

Use both saws many times as well as the 3400 and honestly can't say vibration was an issue. Some guys complain about the poor anti-vibe setup on theses saws but I just don't see it.

I too would like to see a pic of that tool.. I used a c-clamp and a pin also, not welded together, Kinda looked like a monkey f---ing a football I suppose, lol but it worked!:monkey:
