That is very cool, a plain 306 decal, not a 306A.

I would like that and to find a plain 306 for the collection.

I find it strange the 306 was actually produced after the 306A was introduced and not the other way around. I mean why bother producing a manual only oiler saw? Did they really sell for that much less to be worth the extra expense of building them?

Just to be sure, I went out and checked mine..it's a 306A. Darn, thought I might have something rare! I've sold several of them and don't think I've ever seen a plain 306.

Now I wish I had knew this on all the 306's I have looked at and passed on in the past. Will pay attention to this for ya from now on.

Zachary (LittlePossum) had a 'plain' 306 up for grabs a while ago. He may still have it Mark.

I got the little 285 going today. Fuel lines, front isolator, fuel and vent lines, carb kit, and new chain. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but I think it seems to run pretty good for a 46cc saw.

I only need to find a brake band for it. I don't have much wood to test cut with so I need t find some more. This was a piece of birch.

I'm bored and am thinking of playing with my poulan/craftsman 3800. I've got squish down to .022. Comp is 135lbs with new rings and less than 1 tank used. I've heard that advancing the timing by filing the woodruff key will liven the saw up. Question: do I file the left side of the key and move flywheel clockwise, or do I go the other way? Will this even accomplish anything?

Bob you'll want to move the flywheel Counter Clockwise in relation to the crank to advance the timing (on an electronic ign saw such as the 3400-4000 series). Can give the saw a bit more torque. Too much will make it NO FUN to start however. Kickback city...

I bought a 2700 today to add to my growing Poulan collection, it runs great but is missing the top cover. I was wondering how many CCs it is and if the cylinder has a chrome bore or is aluminum? I could go pull the muffler and look but it's cold out in the garage.... and it's easier to just ask you guys:msp_tongue:

Question for Poulan/Craftsman 3800 owners....Do you guys use or have you developed anything other than the OEM air filter? I've been working my Craftsman hard and it's impossible to keep the air filter clean.

I ran across a 5.2 / 30" Craftsman today. It's complete but had been sitting for over a year so I didn't try to start it. Compression seems very strong and the bar looks to be original. No pictures yet, I'll try to get some tomorrow. Here's the question ---->

Do I restore it?

Cut wood with it?

Sell it?

Prop a door open with it?

????

I figured if anyone on the site would know the best use for this saw it would be someone here. I have a 6421 Makita that handles all of my larger cutting chores, nothing around here it can't handle with a 24" bar, but I'm curious as to how well this old 85 cc beast would handle some oak. TIA

30" bar in oak on that saw will be all it wants but it handles it VERY well.....IMHO. Will out perform most 85cc saws on the current market.

46cc and a bare bore with chrome piston if I remember right.

What I have developed to keep my filters clean on all saws is to keep the chain sharp!!!

Hi Marc!

That 5.2 (rebadged Poulan 5200) would put a serious hurtin' on some oak. Keep it as your 'big wood' saw.......or sell/trade it to that eccentric fellow who lives out on the left coast.

So I guess I file the right side of the woodruff key which will allow me to move the flywheel counterclockwise. I wouldn't imagine filing the key would advance the timing too much as the key itself can't be more than an 1/16" wide.mi wonder if that small a change will make a difference?

it will eat your Makita for lunch.....but it weighs enough you will be taking lunch early......keep it and love it for what it is or sell it and use the money to put a B.B. kit on you Makita......Parts for the Poulan are hard to come by for most of us, so for a work saw stick with what you have. If you are old and have a love of these old powerful saws with good AV and electronic ignition ignition and just want to run it once in a while keep it. I just happen to have a big bore kit for a makita sitting on my table that I got for a great price on sale. It comes with three rings. I am old and can't use saws much. If you want to do a trade send me a P.M. I have a 7900 Dolmar that I won't live long enough to wear out , the BB kit is my back up.:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange: what was I thinking

Hmmmmm. I had no idea this saw would generate so much interest. Now I have to think a little bit. The last thing I need is another project, but if it's that much fun to run maybe I should keep it... On the other hand I can always use cash to fund other projects (spelled W-I-F-E). I need to get some pics of that saw up so you can see it it's even worth messing with.

Alright, a HUGE disappointment. I snuck this thing in to take some pictures and find the bar is only 24", instead of the 30" I originally thought.

Well, that's not that bad I guess. The paint on this thing still looks good!
