You can try that, but mostly you'll probably find parts because if a shop has it laying around it's probably because something major is wrong with it.

Yeah that's what I thought. :(

Oh well, maybe they'll have a chain brake/hand guard I could slap onto the 375.

I'm not sure yet, but I'm thinking of selling a saw so I can have some cash to play with when I'm looking for other saws. I'm just not sure which one to sell if I do, I'm thinking one of the 3400's?
There is 2 3400's a 245A and 2 5200's. I'll cut with all of them so it's not a collector thing. Thoughts?

Very bad idea, the saws you have that are worth anything are very hard to come by (especially for the money you paid for them) 5200 & 245. The 3400's are not going to sell for anything worth what you need to go buy more saws. If i were you i would not sell those 5200's or the 245a. I would search for some spare parts for them though (air filters, guide plates, rings etc.)

Yeah you're probably right. I need to find someone that has no clue what they have.

You ever have luck buying Poulans from small engine shops? I've been thinking about checking a few places out (there's several near me) but I figured what's the point. If a repair shop has saws lying around that means they couldn't fix it or the repair cost more than the saw. Also, the repair guy will know a lot more than I so if he can't do it I surely can't.
Ambull, shops are a very good place to look for Poulans, especially Stihl shops that couldn't care less about them.

My local Stihl dealer holds a "crushing party" each year whereby any non Stihl or Husky saw "junked" is crushed. The saws I have pulled out of the bin just to hold for a few minutes are unbelievable. Regardless, no amount of begging has ever netted me a saw.

I was told flat out that they don't want anyone fixing them up because it is a lost sale in their eyes.

It is like going to a funeral. A shameful waste.

Fair enough, your probably right. I really don't want to get rid of any.

So I made a little headway this event on my 2 problem child saws.
245a- I put a little fuel in the spark plug hole and got it to fire and it will run with the choke on but site as soon as you take off the choke. It has a fresh carb kit and new spark plug but won't stay running and won't start without fuel in the cylinder.
5200- has good compression and spark but when I put a little fuel mix in the spark plug hole it won't even pop, so it has to be something with the ignition right?

Yikes, that's pretty steep. I can scratch a 5200 off my wish list, I'll never pay that kind of cash for a chainsaw. I thought they would run around $200 at most.

I got some other saws (including a 4900), some bars and a bunch of parts for my money. I have given anywhere from $25-$250 for 5200's.

You have JCP twice, in addition to Spiegel (note spelling), Alden's also sold them and they were also branded as Gambles. Just to clarify, the correct spelling is Skil.

In Canada I think they were also branded as Canadian Tire.
c.t.. aka mastercraft...
