It's a 5200 with a 4900 top cover. It don't appear to have a front reinforced case and has a 5200/4200 type tank on it. The recoil is the early style as well.

Your probably right Mark. It had me wondering, cause you don't see the olive green cover often being used as a replacement. The saw obviously has the 3 screw top cover mount also. My older 5200 & 4200 also, have the 1 screw cover. If some of these saws could talk..LOL The life they have had, and cobbled back to life, to keep on working.

Gregg,

Gregg,

The three screw top cover don't jive with the early non reinforced case (if in fact it is but hard to see in the picture), but the locating pins could have been removed and the case tapped for screws I guess..

Wow Gregg! If I'm not mistaken it looks like your refurbed 5200 is for sale in Romania.

Nice see that Nate! Glad I sent it to where it would be used.

That small soft pine wasn't much of a challenge for it was it?

Oh it's definitely getting and going to get used! No the soft pine was a piece of cake. The red fir I cut, not pictured though was a little wet still and it was about 18-20" around so it was a little tougher cutting but the 3.7 ate it up too. Great saw and thanks again Mark!

That 5200 is a saw I traded for that needed a top cover, dog, lots of cleanup, and air filter. So yes, it isn't cherry by any means, but its a complete runner. It will get sold or traded at some point as I am sticking with the creamsickles, orange, and yellow colored saws.

Yeah I heard some people were weird like that.

I just don't want to diversify that much. I keep it to a few models of three brands which makes it easier. The 5200 I ran last year at the gtg was awsome, but I think my 800 & 850 are every bit as much. For real work however, my more modern saws are much faster and easier on me. For occasional firewood cutting though, the vintage saws are a lot of fun.

Dang if it ain't Tim! Wish I could read that, maybe Romania is good market for old Poulans. I doubt it though.
Funny though, This Poulan group is the only place I ever posted that pic I think. lol Its not a copyrighted pic by any means. Kinda suck though if they were using it to sell a similar saw. (buyer beware) I suppose.

Gregg,

Mark,

What's the visual difference and the physical difference between the old and new style 5200 starters?

Tim, Only other thing I have noticed is the post or lack thereof, for the recoil spring. It is visible in the lower right corner on the outside. My early 5200 & 4200 both have a smooth outer cover. No post. My later 5200 has one. Must be another early/late thing.

Gregg, some of those like that were also setup to use two different starter springs, the regular early type with the oval loop on the end plus it could use the later version with the round loop on the end. The 4400 up and later used the round loop which is better.

There was a service replacement starter housing as well, here is a PDF for it. There was also a service crankcase for them too, I'll have to look and see if I can find the info on that. I know the later crankcase used the 1/4" threaded housing for the later starter housing and is probably why they came out with the service replacement housing assembly.

I ended up with one of those kits and used it on my restored 5200 and used the stepped 10-24 allan bolts on it. It was setup for either recoil spring if I remember right.

Mine has the later recoil with the pin but for oval head 10-24 screws.

Thanks for the info Mark and Gregg.

Just about any pic you post on here that's on another site like you tube or photobucket shows up when you search for pics on google. I found that when I googled Poulan 5200 pics.

I'm not sure about pics uploaded from your hard drive.

I'm guessing that guy is pulling a scam by offering your saw up for sale since that's a free ad sell site. I'll bet it happens quite a bit.

Here is the 32 Mark wanted to see, original plug

Thanks. For some reason I really wants one of the 32's and I'm not all that sure why?

I guess cause there kind of cute.

I should have my K100 done in a few days, I'm waiting on the rest of the parts for the Brown carburetor. The rest is all done.
