Posted in the chainsaw section too, anyone know how this recoil spring is supposed to hook to the case of the saw? Doesn't look broken to me.
Also, if anyone has a carcass around I need a flywheel, this one is cracked.

I have not seen that setup in chainsaws before, but I have seen it in tractor magnetos. The loop inner end of the spring needs to catch on the inner Notches on the center hub. You need to tweek the spring toward the center so it can catch. It doesn't seem like it will stay, but it will when you get it right.
 
Had time today to take my time to measure and check over closer.

Poulan 4000 PP395 parts NOS and used. I just went through the parts I bought to help others keep this series of saws going.

The 4000 PP395 pulleys IMO is 1 nos and 1 used as I can see where the pawls turned on it. Both have that normal stress gap at the seam in the plastic area. But checked both over and both super tight and ready to go.

The 3 4000 PP395 thin rings I got in are 1 nos and 2 used set. NOS width is 2.06 and the 2 used measure 2.03 so not wore much at all.

These might fit the PP385 too, but never had one to check.

I've never had a Poulan 20 in my hands but I do have a repair manual. Link to it attached. Starter stuff on pages 6 - 8.

Thanks Tim, I have the recoil figured out now.
Now I just need to find a flywheel and key. There is only one on Ebay right now and the guy is selling the flywheel and coil together, not sure I want to spend $35 on this.
 
Hmmm there's one about 45min away that looks clean. Having trouble justifying paying the money for it though. Would rather another 3700 or 4000. Though if the guy bites on $20 it may be worth the drive plus the toll I have to pay. At the very least it spare parts.
 
Open up the exhaust port and muffler on a 3800 and you will have a runner

May be worth it. I'm thinking at the worst spares for some parts wouldn't hurt. Claims it just needs a carb cleaning. My bet is probably carb rebuild and fuel lines. I can possibly pair it with going to the amish feed supply up that direction.
 
So I dunno if it's cause it's hot or what but flooded the 3.7 for the first time. Couldn't fire it up. Ran it briefly last week so dunno. It's pretty freaking hot and humid.
 
Fixed the recoil on the 4218 and it's flooded to kingdom come too. Blaming weather. Only issue is my husky and old Stihl started so I dunno
