Auction ended. Somebody got it for $152.50. Not bad at all for an NOS saw with the case and other bits (even if it's "just" a micro). Wonder how high the winning bidder was willing to go?:jester:

Still cheaper (or really close) than a Stihl 170/180 etc. and one hell of a lot better saw!!!!!
But what do I know.........after all I'm just a firewood cutter!!!

Yep. Worked on hundreds of Micros when I worked at Sears Service. That's the only "clamshell case" (not "clamshell engine) saw worth having or working on. Was gonna pick one up from a CL seller about a year ago for $5 (red Craftsman version with a case, that looked just like that NOS saw). Seller said it sat for a while and wouldn't start. Looked great in the pics. Called and told her I'd be right over to pick it up..........with no haggling (LOL). On the way to her place, she called me back and said that here husband had given it to a friend. WTF?

Finally have one of these in my sights. I`m lousy with micros. Finally something different.
If good enough for me, it will be home by tomorrow afternoon. I guess at least a half dozen of you guys will know which poulan model it is, when I get . Wonder if any parts I have will inter-change.
Curious to see it it has more power...than the micros...they are little bears in the wood. Current owner only said it ran before being stored away.

Yep. S25DA with red paint and a different top handle. should be Sears model # 358.35095-something or 358.35096-something. Here are my Craftsman 2.1A/Poulan 25DA (358.350940) and Craftsman 1.9/Poulan XX-D. That saw you're picking up will have much more snot than a Micro so long as it's healthy. All parts will interchange with other Poulan XXV series saws. If you decide it ain't your thing, I can think of an eccentric fellow with a penchant for red Poulans that'd be interested in it...

Yeah, I saved back three of them myself. They're strong running little saws, very durable and easy to work on should the need ever arise. Mine needed a carb kit and fuel lines after about 15 or so years. If you like it keep it a secret and it'll keep the price down so we can buy more of them! The general public doesn't know how good they are, hence the cheap price.

From what I've seen, by the time the 'green lable' saws were produced, all the Craftsman labled 2.3's were auto/manual. Notice that my saws have white/black lables rather than the shiney green/black lables that you see on later red Craftsmans. My 2.1A does indeed have "A" in the lable, while the later saws have the bar length (and sometimes PS for PowerSharp and VL for CounterVibe). I wouldn't at all be surprised if you fall in love with the saw. Disapointed, but not offended or surprised!

I've had this Poulan chainsaw for a few years. It doesn't get a whole lot of use. I went to fire it up - added gas, topped off the bar oil, checked the air filter.

When I prime it, I see no gasoline coming into the primer bulb but gas starts leaking out of the chainsaw from somewhere.

Does this mean a bad fuel filter or lines? I don't know where to start - including what to do with the gas - that maybe is past its prime?

Probably the line that runs from the primer bulb has either come loose on the bulb or carb. or it has a hole in it. Tom

Those purge bulb systems pull fuel through the carb and pump it back to the tank. The purpose is to purge air out of the carb so you don't have to pull so many times before the carb pumps fuel through itself. I'll bet the return line from the bulb to the tank is disconnected or rotted. Those lines (and the bulb) all should probably be replaced. The bulbs are cheap.

Oops, The Poulan is actually a 4218AVX. I dumped the gas back into the gas can and looked in the chainsaw's tank.

There was a metal cylinder loose in the tank. I guess it is the fuel filter?

The comp. release valve has been removed and replaced with a 1/4"-28 hex head cap screw and jam nut. (A short set screw would have been sooooo much neater.)

Saw fits the profile in my Clymer Chainsaw Repair Manual for a Poulan 655. The added manual oiler in particular. When I get around to pulling the muffler I'll measure the bore by popcicle method.

Needs a recoil pulley, an air filter and said comp. release valve. And, an IPL!!!!

The thing is identical to a Pioneer P62 from what I see.

It's not identical, but close. A 655 has a different jug and ignition for sure. Probably other differences too, I'm not real familiar with the poulan version.

The pulley is probably bad because of the disabled decomp. My P-62 will separate your shoulder if you forget to push the button.

Yes !
And if the line is bad enough that it is loose in there get ready to replace all the lines and rebuild or replace (sometimes the carb can be bought brand new for just slightly more than a kit) the carb.

It's not really hard, just a bit aggrevating the first couple of times.
Take VERY careful note of where a line starts and ends BEFORE unplugging it.
Replace them one at a time and as my Dad used to say when I would tell him I didn't know how to do something....."You won't be able to say that tomorrow"!!!!

craftsman 2.3 model 358.59894 it looks like a runner

Well I did pick up the little red saw, only 25 dollars. Here are some additional pics.

Checked for spark has lots (solid state, gotta love it)
Fuel line seemed to be intact.
Piston looked good under the `stinger`contraption so I threw a little pre-mix down her carb. It Kicked on the 4 pull then stumbled and started to suck from the tank. not sure what he had mixed in it but she ran on it... from the smoke at least 24:1. maybe the Stinger was a fogger attachment for bees and wasps, hmm. It has about the diameter of a pencil, can you say restriction...

Looks like I will need to get the proper screw hardware, and a proper muffler pn 23604. Off to Poulan to see if they still have listings, Sears is NLA.

I could not find any specific IPL`s with Sear`s part number, Sear`s does not like Canadian pn`s:

but, it runs and those model numbers from Eccentric helped out to get me here.
I have good a piston, cylinder and spark so maybe all the other pn`s will be interchangeble.
I will start looking around.
Oh yeah the manual oiler works, not sure about the auto didn`t run it long enough with the mystery mix to find out.
